What is Leader-Lice Solution?

Piperonyl butoxide is an insecticide chemical that prevents the breakdown of pyrethrins.Leader Lice (for the skin) is a combination medication used to treat lice.Leader Lice Solution can be used in other ways not mentioned in this guide.

Side effects of Leader Lice Solution

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek emergency medical attention: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of your lips, face, tongue, or throat.

If you experience severe itching, stinging, or burning where the medication has been applied, call your doctor immediately.

Some of the common side effects associated with the Leader Lice Solution include:

  • Mild itching, burning, or stinging
  • Mild skin rash;
  • Feeling of numbness, tingling, or a tingling sensation.

Before you take this drug

Leader Lice Solution should not be used if you're allergic to it or have a reaction to either chrysanthemums, ragweed, or other plants.FDA pregnancy class C There is no information on whether the Leader Lice Solution can harm an unborn child. If you plan to get pregnant or are already pregnant, tell your doctor.It has not been shown to pass into breast milk. It's also unknown if this medication could harm a baby who was nursing. You should tell your doctor if a child is breastfed.

How to take Leader-Lice Solution?

Do not alter the instructions on your prescription. Use this medication only as directed. Do not exceed the recommended dosage or use it for too long.Lice are contagious. It is possible that all household members will need to be treated. Sharing a hairbrush or comb with another person, wearing a hat, or wearing a headband can spread lice. The disease can be transmitted by direct contact between people.Use the shampoo on dry hair. Shake well prior to use. Apply to the entire scalp, including the area behind the ears and the neck. Leave the shampoo on the hair for no more than 10 minutes and rinse with warm water. Use the shampoo again within 7–10 days to kill any newly-hatched lice.Close your eyes while applying this medication to your hair. Use a towel or washcloth to cover your eyes when applying the medicine to your head. Avoid applying to eyebrows and eyelashes. Contact your doctor immediately if you notice lice in these areas.With a special comb, you will remove any eggs or nits from your hair shafts. Some lice products include a nit-comb. Ask your pharmacist for a nit comb if you don't have one. A regular fine-toothed comb may not remove nits effectively.Do not stop taking the medication before it is completely cleared. You may experience improvement in your symptoms before the infestation of lice is cleared. If your condition doesn't improve or your symptoms worsen while taking this medication, call your doctor.To avoid reinfection, wash all clothing and bedding, including hats, stuffed animals, hairbrushes, and combs, with hot water using a strong cleaner to remove mites and eggs. Use a lice-control spray on furniture, mattresses, and non-washable objects such as headphones, helmets, sports gear, or stuffed toys. You can ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice on how to disinfect your home.Store the medication at room temperature, away from moisture and heat.

What happens if I miss the dose?

As soon as you recall, take the missed dose. If your next scheduled dosage is approaching, skip the missed dose. You should not take extra medicine to compensate for a missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

Call 1-800-222-1222 for poison help or seek immediate medical attention.

What should be avoided?

If your doctor has not instructed you otherwise, do not use other skin or medication products in the area you are treating with Leader Lice Solution.Avoid getting the medication in your mouth, nose, eyes, or vagina. Rinse with water if this happens. Leader Lice Solution should not be used on skin that is sunburned or windburned. It can also cause chapped, irritated, and broken skin.Do not come into close contact with anyone until the virus is cured. Avoid sharing hair combs and hair accessories. Also, avoid sharing clothing, bedding, pillows, bed linens, or other personal items.

Interaction with other drug

Piperonyl butoxide and pyrethrins applied topically are unlikely to be affected by other drugs that you may take orally or even inject. Many drugs interact with each other. Inform your healthcare providers of all medications you take, including over-the-counter and prescription drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
