What is Hydrophore?

There are many different brands and types of petroleum topicals. This leaflet does not list all brands.Petrolatum, a mineral lubricant, is made from petroleum. Hydrophor is used on the skin to protect minor scratches or scrapes.Hydrophor can also be used to prevent or treat chapped lips and cracked skin. It also protects the skin from wind and cold weather.Hydrophor seals in moisture and helps prevent diaper rash or skin irritations caused by bladder or incontinence.This medication guide does not list all possible uses for hydrophor.

Side effects of Hydrophor

Hydrophore can cause serious side effects. Hydrophore should be stopped immediately, and you should consult your doctor if:

  • Skin redness or tenderness
  • Itching

Before you take this drug

Avoid applying Hydrophor to breasts that could come into contact with your baby's mouth if you are breastfeeding.

How to take Hydrophor?

Follow the instructions on the label or those prescribed by your doctor.Take it only by mouth. Topical medicines are only to be used on the skin.This medicine should not be used for serious burns or deep wounds.Hydrophore can be applied as required. Cleanse the area before applying hydrophores.If your symptoms don't improve within 7 days of using this medication, or if they clear up but come back again, call your doctor.Store away from heat and moisture at room temperature.

What happens if I miss the dose?

Hydrophore can be used as needed, and you don't need to follow a schedule. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip any missed dose. Never take two doses in one go.

What happens if I overdose?

Overdoses of petroleum are not dangerous. If anyone accidentally swallows the medication, call 1-800-222-1222 or seek emergency medical care.

What should be avoided?

Hydrophor is harmful to your eyes.

Interaction with other drug

Other drugs that you take are unlikely to affect the medicine applied to your skin. Many drugs interact with each other. Inform your healthcare provider about the medicines you take, including prescriptions and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
