What is Aspirin and dipyridamole?
Aspirin and dipyridamole are an effective combination medicine that can lower the risk of having a stroke among people who have suffered from blood clots, or "mini-stroke" (also called a transient ischemic attack, or TIA).Dipyridamole and aspirin may be used for reasons not covered in this medication guide.
Side effects of Aspirin and dipyridamole?
See a doctor immediately. If you are experiencing symptoms that indicate an allergic reaction, such as hives, difficulty breathing, and swelling of your lips, face, or tongue,
Aspirin and dipyridamole can result in serious adverse side effects. Consult your doctor immediately. If you suffer from:
- New or progressively worsening chest pain,
- Feeling faint, as though about to faint.
- Hearing issues or ringing in your ear;
- Liver issues: upper stomach pain, itching, lack of appetite black stools, dark urine, and jaundice (yellowing of the eyes or skin);
- Symptoms of stomach bleeding, such as stomach pain and intense heartburn, bleeding, bloody or tarry stool, the spit-up of blood, or vomiting that appears like coffee grounds
- Symptoms of brain bleeding, such as confusion and memory issues, an extreme headache, and fainting.
Common adverse effects of aspirin and dipyridamole could be:
- Headache;
- Heartburn, upset stomach;
- Nausea, stomach pain,
- Diarrhea.

Warnings
It is not recommended to use aspirin or dipyridamole if you have asthma and nasal polyps or if you're sensitive to the aspirin drug or NSAID (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication).The combination of dipyridamole and aspirin may increase the chance of bleeding, which could be very serious or even life-threatening. Call your doctor or seek medical attention in an emergency in the event of bleeding that isn't stopping and you notice bloody or black stools, or in the event that there is a cough out of the blood or vomit that appears similar to coffee grinds.
Before you take this drug
It is not recommended to use this medicine if your body is allergic to dipyridamole or aspirin or if you suffer from
- Asthma, in conjunction with nasal polyps;
- If you've ever experienced an asthma attack or a severe allergic reaction following the use of aspirin or an nsaid (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication),
Do not give this medication to a teenager or child suffering from fever, flu symptoms, or chickenpox. Aspirin may cause reye's syndrome, which is a severe and often fatal condition for children.
Inform your doctor immediately if you have ever suffered from:
- A stomach ulcer or bleeding
- Bleeding issues;
- Heart-related problems;
- Lower blood pressure;
- Myasthenia gravis.
Aspirin use during the latter stages of pregnancy can cause bleeding for the mother or in the baby during birth. Tell your doctor whether you are expecting or planning to be pregnant.It might not be safe to breastfeed while taking this medication. Consult your physician regarding any risks.
How to take Aspirin and dipyridamole?
Follow the directions on your prescription label, and review all medication guides and instructions. The doctor might alter the dosage. Follow the medication precisely as directed.Aspirin is a medicine that you can take along with dipyridamole, with or without food.Don't chew on, crack, or open the capsule with extended release. Take it in whole.Dipyridamole and aspirin can cause headaches the first time you start using them. Should you experience severe headaches, consult with a physician immediately.Diapyramole and aspirin may cause bleeding to occur from even an injury that is minor, like the result of a bump or fall to the face. Contact your doctor or seek medical emergency attention in the event that you fall, bump your head, or experience any bleeding that doesn't stop.If you are in need of surgical intervention or a dental procedure, inform your dentist or surgeon beforehand that you're using diapyramole and aspirin. It may be necessary to take a break for a short time to prevent bleeding excessively.If you are in need of an exercise test to determine the condition of your heart, inform your physician that you're taking dipyridamole and aspirin. You might have to discontinue aspirin and dipyridamole for 48 hours prior to the test.Don't stop using aspirin or dipyridamole until your doctor instructs you to.Place this medication in the original bottle at room temperature and away from heat and moisture.Combining diapyramole and aspirin (Aggrenox) is not the same as taking the two medications independently. Usual Adult Dose for Ischemic Stroke—Prophylaxis:
Aspirin 25 mg-Dipyridamole 200 mg orally at least twice per day
Comments: If uncontrollable headaches are experienced during the initial treatment, you can switch to aspirin 25 mg, dipyridamole 200 mg in the evening before bed, and aspirin with a low dose in the morning. Resumption of a regular regimen as soon as you can, usually within one week.
Use: To lower the risk of having a stroke in patients who've had temporary ischemia in the brain or total ischemic stroke because of thrombosis.
Details on dosage
You should take the medication as quickly as you can. However, avoid any missed doses if you are nearing the time to take the next dose. Don't take two doses at a time.
What happens if I miss the dose?
Get medical attention in an emergency or contact the poison help line at 1-800-222-1222.The signs of an overdose could include warmth or tingling, sweating, fatigue, dizziness, restlessness, and rapid heartbeats. Your ears could also experience ringing.
What happens if I overdose?
Alcohol consumption while taking dipyridamole or aspirin can increase the chance of bleeding.Consult a physician or pharmacist prior to using any other medications for swelling, fever, pain and swelling, or cold or flu symptoms. These medicines may contain ingredients that are similar to aspirin (such as magnesium salicylate, ibuprofen, ketoprofen, or naproxen).
Interaction with other drug
Discuss with your physician all other medications taken, especially:
- Acetazolamide;
- Methotrexate;
- Probenecid;
- Blood pressure or heart medication, such as diuretics, also known as "water pills";
- Medicine used to cure dementia
- Medications that are used to prevent or treat blood clots, such as anagrelide, heparin, or warfarin (coumadin, jantoven);
- Oral diabetes medicine;
- Seizure medication;
- An nsaid is aspirin, ibuprofen (advil, motrin), naproxen (aleve), celecoxib, diclofenac, indomethacin, meloxicam, and more.
