What is Hydromet?

Hydromet is used to treat nasal congestion, sneezing, and coughs caused by allergies or the cold.Hydromet is an opioid cough medicine that can be addictive.This medication guide does not list all possible uses of hydromet.

Side effects of Hydromet

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention: difficulty breathing, hives, swelling of your lips, face, tongue, or throat.If you take opioid medicine, it can cause your breathing to slow down or stop. Death may result. If you have long pauses in your breathing, blue lips, or are hard to awaken, someone caring for you may want to give you Naloxone and/or seek immediate medical attention.

If you experience:

  • Sighing and noisy breathing are both examples of shallow breathing.
  • Feeling weak, confused, or drowsy is a sign of extreme drowsiness.
  • A seizure;
  • A feeling of lightheadedness, as if you could pass out.
  • Constipation is a serious condition that causes severe abdominal pain.
  • Little or no urination
  • Adrenal gland problems: nausea, vomiting, fatigue, or worsening of weakness
  • Serotonin levels are high in the body. This can cause agitation, hallucinations, and other symptoms.

Severe breathing problems are more common in elderly adults, especially those with wasting syndrome and chronic breathing disorders.

Some of the common side effects associated with hydromet include:

  • Drowsiness, dizziness;
  • Lack of energy and coordination problems
  • Headache, confusion;
  • Dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, constipation;
  • Tremors, rapid or irregular heartbeat;
  • Feeling anxious, restless, or nervous.

Warnings

Misuse of this medication can result in addiction, overdose or even death.Store the medicine in a safe place that others cannot reach.You may experience fatal side effects if you combine this medication with alcohol or other drugs that make you drowsy or cause breathing problems.

Before you take this drug

Hydromet should not be used if:

  • Severe asthma or breathing problems
  • A stomach or obstruction in the bowel (including paralytic ileus);
  • High blood pressure:
  • Severe coronary heart disease;
  • Narrow-angle glaucoma;
  • If you're unable to urinate,

Do not give this medication to anyone under the age of 6.If you've taken an MAO inhibitor in the last 14 days (such as isocarboxazid or linezolid), this medicine should not be used.

Inform your physician of any of the following issues:

  • Lung disease or breathing problems
  • A head injury, brain tumor, or seizure;
  • Constipation or stomach issues;
  • You may have problems with the bile duct or pancreas.
  • An enlarged prostate
  • Urination problems
  • Liver or kidney disease
  • Low blood pressure
  • Heart Disease A blood vessel disorder
  • Drug abuse,
  • If you have a high fever and a cough, that is mucusy.

Your baby may exhibit withdrawal symptoms post-birth if you take opioids while pregnant. Babies born dependent on opioids may need medical treatment for several weeks.If you are nursing, seek advice from your physician regarding using opioids as part of an analgesic regimen.. Inform your doctor if the baby is drowsy or has a slow breathing rate.

How to take Hydromet?

Read all the instructions on the label of your medication and follow them. Do not use more than the prescribed dose or for a longer period of time. Cold and cough medicines should only be used for a short time until symptoms have cleared up.Do not share this medication with anyone, especially if they have a history of drug abuse. Misuse can lead to addiction, overdose, or death. Store the medicine away from others. Selling or giving away medicine without authorization is illegal.Measuring liquid medicine is important. Use the provided dosing device or a dose-measuring tool (not a spoon). After each use, rinse the syringe.If your symptoms don't improve within 5 days or you experience a headache, rash, or fever, call your doctor.Tell your doctor or surgeon if you've taken cough medicine or cold medication in the last few days.Store at room temperature, away from moisture or heat, ideally in airtight containers to prevent dampness from penetrating the contents.Keep leftover medication away from children. One dose of this medication can be fatal if it is used incorrectly or accidentally.

What happens if I miss the dose?

Hydromet can be used as needed, and you might not have a schedule. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip any missed dose. Never take two doses in one go.

What happens if I overdose?

Call the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222 or seek emergency medical care. An overdose of opioids can be deadly, especially if the person is a child or if they are using them without a prescription.You may be advised by your doctor to carry naloxone with you (a medicine that reverses an overdose). If you stop breathing or if you don't awaken, a person who cares for you can administer naloxone. You must still call for emergency medical assistance, and your caregiver may have to perform CPR on you while they wait.Naloxone can be purchased at any local pharmacy or health department. Make sure anyone who cares for you is aware of where and how you store naloxone.

What should be avoided?

Don't drink alcohol. Side effects and death can occur.Hydromet can cause you to feel dizzy or drowsy. Do not drive or operate machinery until you are sure of how it will affect you. Falls or other accidents can be caused by dizziness or extreme drowsiness.

Interaction with other drug

If you stop or start taking certain medicines, you may experience breathing problems or withdrawal. You should tell your doctor if other medications are being used, such as an antifungal, blood pressure or heart medication, seizure medicine, HIV/hepatitis C, or a medication to treat HIV.

Opioids can interact with other medications and cause serious side effects, or even death. Tell your doctor if you use:

  • Medications, bronchodilators, asthma/COPD medicine, or diuretics ("water pills");
  • Medicines for motion sickness or irritable intestine syndrome
  • Other opioids: prescription cough medicine or opioid pain medication;
  • A sedative such as Valium—diazepam (alprazolam), lorazepam (lorazepam), Xanax (Klonopin), Versed, and others.
  • Sleeping pills, muscle relaxants, medicines to treat mental disorders, mood disorders, etc.
  • Drugs that increase serotonin in the body, such as stimulants, medicines for depressive disorders, Parkinson’s disease, or migraine headaches
