What is Ciprofloxacin-dexamethasone?

Ciprofloxacin belongs to the family of antibiotics. Dexamethasone steroid.Ciprofloxacin-dexamethasone for the ears is an antibiotic/steroids combination medicine prescribed to treat infections of both the inner ear (also referred to as otitis media) and outer ear canal infections.This medication guide does not list all possible uses of dexamethasone and ciprofloxacin.

Side effects of Ciprofloxacin-dexamethasone

If you experience any of the following symptoms, seek emergency medical attention: rash or hives; itching. You may also feel dizzy, have rapid heartbeats, chest fluttering, difficulty breathing, and swelling of your lips, face, tongue, throat, or lips.Call your physician immediately if drainage from your ears develops soon after stopping ciprofloxacin-dexamethasone use; particularly if this recurs multiple times within 6 months after stopping to use.

Common side effects of ciprofloxacin-dexamethasone may include:

  • Itching or pain in the ear, or discomfort or fullness of the ear
  • Unusual taste in the mouth
  • Feeling irritable;
  • Rash;
  • A buildup of debris within the ear canal

Before you take this drug

Ciprofloxacin-dexamethasone should not be taken if you are sensitive to either ingredient. Also avoid this treatment if any of these symptoms exist:

  • A virus or fungus that affects your ear canal;
  • If you have an allergy to any antibiotics similar to ciprofloxacin, such as gatifloxacin, levofloxacin, moxifloxacin, cipro, levaquin, and others,

Inform your physician of any of the following issues:

  • Acute ear pain
  • Hearing problems are a common problem.

Inform your physician immediately if you become pregnant or nursing.Ciprofloxacin or dexamethasone shouldn't be given to a child under 6 months of age.

How to take Ciprofloxacin-dexamethasone?

Read all instructions or guides that come with your medication and follow all instructions on the label. Follow the directions on the label.Take it only by mouth. Otic medicines are only to be used in the ears.Before each use, shake the medication well.Holding the bottle for 1 to 2 minutes will warm up the medicine. Cold ear drops may cause dizziness in children, especially those with ear tubes.Before using ear drops, wash your hands.

How to use ear drops

  • If you are lying down, tilt your head upward with your ear up. When giving this medicine, gently pull your ear back or pull downward on the earlobe.
  • Drop the correct amount of drops in your ear by holding the dropper upside-down over your ear.
  • For at least two minutes, lie down with your head tipped back. Use a piece of cotton to stop the medicine from draining.
  • Avoid touching the tip of the dropper or placing it directly into your ears. It could become contaminated. Do not use soap or water to wash the tip. Instead, wipe it with a tissue.

You should take this medication for the entire prescribed time. You may experience symptom improvement before the virus has been completely eradicated. You may increase your chances of a second infection resistant to anti-biotics if you skip doses.If your symptoms don't improve within 7 days or you experience new symptoms, call your doctor.Store away from moisture, light, and heat. Do not store in the freezer. After your treatment, throw away any medicine that you have not used.

What happens if i miss the dose?

If it is close to time for you to take another dose, skip any missed medication altogether and wait. Doing otherwise would result in double dosing of similar medicine at once.

What happens if i overdose?

Ciprofloxacin-dexamethasone overdosage should not pose serious danger. If anyone accidentally swallows the medication, seek emergency medical care or call poison help at 1-800-222-1222.

What should be avoided?

Do not place medication into your eyes.Avoid getting water into your ears when bathing or taking a shower. While you're treating an ear problem, avoid swimming.You should only use this medication unless you have been prescribed it by your doctor.

Other drugs that you take are unlikely to affect the medicine used in your ears. Many drugs interact with each other. Inform your healthcare provider about the medicines you take, including prescriptions and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
