Giltuss Children’s Allergy Plus

What is Giltuss Children's Allergy Plus?

Chlorpheniramine acts as an antihistamine. Dextromethorphan suppresses cough. Phenylephrine works as a decongestant. Giltuss Common Cold and Flu Plus is a combination medication used to treat allergies, sneezing or runny noses, itching, or watery eyes. Giltuss Children's Allergy Plus does not treat coughs caused by asthma or emphysema, nor can it be used to treat smoking-induced coughs. Giltuss Children's Allergy Plus can be used in other ways not mentioned in this guide.

Side Effects of Giltuss Children's Allergy Plus

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction , seek immediate medical attention: difficulty breathing, hives, swelling of the face, lips or throat.

This medicine can cause serious side effects. If you experience:

  • Severe anxiety, tremor, seizure (convulsions);
  • Fast or pounding heartbeats
  • Urination that is painful or difficult
  • Pale skin, weakness;
  • A severe headache that pounded in your neck and ears.

Some of the common side effects associated with giltuss children's allergy plus include:

  • Dizziness, drowsiness;
  • Blurred vision
  • Dry mouth, nose, or throat
  • Increased or decreased urination
  • Nausea, diarrhea, and loss of appetite
  • Sleep problems (insomnia);

Warnings

If you have taken an MAO-inhibitor in the last 14 days (such as isocarboxazid or linezolid) it would be prudent to wait at least 14 days before using this medicine.

Before you take this drug

If you suffer from:

  • Coughing up mucus with asthma or COPD;
  • A blockage of your digestive tract, such as the stomach or intestines;
  • Heart disease, high pressure
  • Liver or kidney disease
  • Glaucoma;
  • Urination or prostate problems;
  • Overactive thyroid
  • Pheochromocytoma

Giltuss Children's Allergy Plus should not be used if an MAO inhibitor has been taken in the last 14 days. A harmful drug interaction may occur.MAO inhibitors include isocarboxazid (linezolid), phenelzine injection and other related substances; rasagiline; selegiline; and other related therapies like Methylene Blue Injection or Tranylcypromine are among many of the more frequently prescribed. Consult your doctor before taking this medication if you're pregnant or nursing.

How to take Giltuss Children's Allergy Plus?

Follow the directions on the label or those prescribed by your physician. Cold and cough medicines are only to be used for a short time until symptoms have cleared up. Follow the directions on the label when giving cough medicine or cold medicine. Never use cough and cold medicine to put a child to sleep. Measuring liquid medicine is important.Dosage must be measured accurately using either the dosing device provided, or another dose-measuring tool (not spoon). Mix the tablets with at least four ounces of warm water. Mix the mixture and drink it immediately. Pour a little water into the glass and swirl it gently. Drink immediately. Do not take more than 7 consecutive days. If your symptoms don't improve within 7 days or you experience a headache, fever, or rash, then call your doctor. Inform your physician or surgeon immediately if you've taken this medication within the last several days and plan on having medical testing or surgery performed. Store away from heat and moisture at room temperature.

What happens if I miss the dose?

Giltuss Children's Allergy Plus is taken as needed. You may not have a schedule. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip any missed dose. Never take two doses in one go.

What should be avoided?

Alcohol consumption can have side effects when taken with this medication. Be cautious before driving or engaging in potentially hazardous activities until you understand how a medication will impact you; otherwise you could find yourself incapable of reacting appropriately and may become impaired. Before trying any alternative cold or cough medicines, be sure to ask a healthcare provider or pharmacist whether their ingredients match. Avoid overheating or dehydration during exercise or in hot weather. This medication can cause you to sweat less and be more susceptible to heatstroke.

Interaction with other drug

Avoid taking this medication with drugs that slow breathing or cause drowsiness (such as muscle relaxers, opioid medicines, or medicines for anxiety or seizures). Before taking any other medications, including vitamins, herbal products, prescription medicines, or over-the-counter medicines, you should consult your doctor or pharmacist.
