What is Gemtesa?

Gemtesa affects the muscles of the bladder. Adults can use Gemtesa to treat the symptoms of an overactive bladder.

Gemtesa helps improve:

  • Urge urinary incontinence: an urgent need to urinate when there are accidents that leak or get wet.
  • Urgency: The need to urinate immediately
  • Frequency: Urinating frequently

There is no information on the safety or effectiveness of Gemtesa in children.

Before you take this drug

If you have an allergy to Vibegron, then you should avoid using Gemtesa.

Tell your doctor about any of the following to ensure that Gemtesa will be safe for you:

  • Trouble emptying your bladder?
  • A weak urine stream;
  • Liver disease
  • Kidney disease is a serious condition.

Inform your physician if you are pregnant or nursing. Gemtesa cannot be used by anyone under the age of 18.

How to take Gemtesa?

Read and follow all instructions included on your prescription label. Gemtesa can be taken orally once daily as an oral tablet of 75mg. Take this medication with a full glass of water. Take Gemtesa either with food or without. If you are unable to swallow the entire tablet, you can crush it and mix it with 1 teaspoon of applesauce. The mixture should be swallowed immediately with a glass full of water. The mixture should not be saved for future use. Store away from heat and moisture at room temperature. Keep the leftover Gemtesa away. Your pharmacist can direct you to a program for drug disposal. If there isn't a take-back program available, place the remaining medicine in a plastic bag with coffee grounds or cat litter.

Details on dosage

Usual Adult Dose for Overactive Bladder Syndrome:
75 mg once daily orally
Use: To treat overactive bladder (OAB), with symptoms such as urge urinary urgency and urinary frequency.

What happens if I miss the dose?

If it is nearly time for your next dosage, do not double up on that dose - avoid doing this to protect the integrity of the medicine and to avoid potentially serious adverse side effects.

What happens if I overdose?

Reach out immediately if a poison emergency arises; call 1-800-222-1222.

What should be avoided?

If your doctor prescribes any restrictions regarding food, beverage, or activity, follow their instructions.

Side effects of Gemtesa

If you experience symptoms like hives, difficulty breathing or swelling to lips, face, tongue or throat requiring emergency medical assistance immediately please seek emergency assistance immediately.

  • You are having difficulty completely emptying your bladder.
  • You may feel pain or burning while urinating.

Gemtesa may cause side effects such as:

  • Painful urination
  • Nausea, diarrhea;
  • Headache;
  • Cold symptoms like a stuffy nose and sneezing.

Interaction with other drug

Please inform your physician of any medications taken other than those listed, including but not limited to:

  • Digoxin or digitalis.
