What is Ganirelix?

Ganirelix is a drug that reduces estrogen and certain hormones. Ganirelix can be used in conjunction with other medications to treat infertility in women. This medication guide does not list all possible uses of Ganirelix.

Side effects of Ganirelix

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of your lips, face, tongue, or throat.

Some women who use ganirelix may develop ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), a potentially fatal condition. If any of the following symptoms arise, call your physician immediately:

  • Stomach pain, bloating, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea;
  • Rapid weight gain in the face and midsection, especially.
  • Little or no urination
  • Feeling short of breath while lying down is an indication of breathing difficulty, and should be treated as such.

Ganirelix can cause the following side effects:

  • Stomach pain;
  • Headache;
  • Vaginal bleeding

Before you take this drug

If you have an allergy to ganirelix or other similar medications, such as leuprolide, goserelin, or nafarelin, then you should avoid using ganirelix. If you suspect an allergy to latex, inform your healthcare provider as soon as possible. may cause birth defects. If you are pregnant, do not use this product. You may have to take a pregnancy test first. As soon as you become pregnant, inform your physician immediately. Ganirelix should not be used while breastfeeding.

How to take Ganirelix?

Ganirelix can be injected into the skin several times a day, for several days straight, during certain phases of fertility treatment. Only prepare an injection when it's time for administration, read and follow its directions carefully, if assistance is required please speak to either your pharmacist or doctor for guidance or seek their opinion on matters concerning use. Never reuse a syringe or needle. Put them in a "sharps container" that is puncture-proof, and dispose of the sharps according to local or state laws. Keep away from children and pets. You may need to test your blood frequently. While using ganirelix, you should remain under the supervision of your doctor. Store the prefilled syringe away from heat and moisture. After one use, throw away the prefilled syringe, even if it still contains medicine.

Details on dosage

Usual Adult Dose for Gonadotropin Inhibition:
During the late to mid-phase of the follicular stage:
-Administer 250 mcg once daily subcutaneously until the day of hCG administration.
Comments:
Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) therapy should begin on the second or third day of the cycle.
When a sufficient number and size of follicles are present, hCG can be administered with the help of ultrasound. The hCG will induce the final maturation of these follicles.
Use: To inhibit the premature surges of luteinizing hormone in women who are undergoing controlled ovarian stimulation.

Interaction with other drug
