What is Gamifant?

Gamifant and dexamethasone are used to treat hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, a rare condition that can be inherited. HLH can cause your immune system to attack healthy blood cells, which may lead to life-threatening or serious side effects in your liver or spleen. This medicine can be used by adults as well as children as young as newborns. Gamifant can be given when other treatments have failed or stopped working. Gamifant can be used in other ways not mentioned in this guide.

Side effects of Gamifant

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, or throat. Some side effects can occur during the injection. You should tell your caregiver if any of these symptoms occur: nausea, vomiting, nausea, feeling light-headed, or you experience chest pain, shortness of breath.

If any of the following symptoms arise, contact your physician immediately:

  • Fever, chills, and night sweats
  • Loss of appetite Weight loss
  • Feeling very tired
  • Heat, redness, or painful sores
  • Difficulty breathing;
  • Mouth and throat ulcers
  • Cough with bloody mucus
  • Any other signs or symptoms of infection, whether new or worsening.

Gamifant side effects may include:

  • Fever;
  • Increased blood pressure

Gamifant can affect your immune system.Your risk could escalate into more serious infections - possibly fatal ones - which require treatment with antibiotics and may prove fatal for you.

Before you take this drug

Tell your doctor whether you or anyone else in your family has ever suffered from tuberculosis. Tell your doctor about any recent travels. In certain regions of the world, fungi and tuberculosis are more prevalent. You may have been exposed to these diseases while traveling.

Tell your doctor about any of the following:

  • A positive skin test for tuberculosis;
  • Any type of infection (current or recent);
  • Histoplasmosis (a fungal infection);
  • Herpes zoster (shingles);
  • If you have a scheduled vaccination,

Tell your doctor immediately if you become pregnant or nursing.

How to take Gamifant?

Your doctor may test you to ensure that you are not infected with tuberculosis before you begin treatment. Gamifant infusions are given into the vein, typically once every three or four days. This injection will be given by a healthcare provider. Gamifant should be administered slowly. The infusion may take up to an hour. Gamifant can affect your immune system. You could get more serious infections, or even fatal ones. Your doctor will need to perform blood tests in order to determine the length of time you should be treated with this medication. Other medications may be prescribed to prevent serious infections. Continue to use these medications as prescribed by your doctor.

What happens if I miss the dose?

If you are unable to attend your Gamifant's appointment, call your doctor.

What happens if I overdose?

Call 1-800-222-1222 for poison help or seek immediate medical attention.

What should be avoided?

Typhoid, yellow fever, and varicella. Live vaccines are measles (MMR), rubella, rotavirus (typhoid), yellow fever, varicella, chickenpox, and zoster (shingles) (influenza).

Interaction with other drug

Gamifant may be affected by other drugs, such as vitamins and herbal remedies.Inform your physician of all medications you are currently taking as well as those you plan on starting or discontinuing use.
