What is Fluticasone topical?
Fluticasone helps to reduce inflammation within the body. Topical Fluticasone (for the skin) is used to treat inflammation and itching due to eczema, or skin disorders that respond to steroid medications. This medication guide does not list all possible uses for Fluticasone Topical.
Side effects of Fluticasone topical
If you experience any of the following signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of lips, face, tongue or throat - seek medical attention immediately!
Fluticasone can cause serious side effects. If you experience:
- Skin pain, tenderness, or swelling
- Any wound that does not heal
- Blurred vision and eye pain
- Skin irritation following the use of the medication;
- Possible signs of fluticasone topical absorption through the skin include: weight gain, especially in the face, upper back, and torso; thinning skin; or increased body hair. Other symptoms may include muscle weakness, nausea, and diarrhea.
Fluticasone topical side effects may include:
- Rash, skin redness, or itching;
- Burning or stinging on the treated skin
- Increased hair growth
- Feeling light-headed

Before you take this drug
If you have an allergy to fluticasone or formaldehyde, then you should avoid using fluticasone.
Inform your doctor if any of the following applies to you:
- Any type of skin infection
- A skin reaction to steroid medicines;
- Liver disease
- Glaucoma, or cataracts
- Diabetes;
- An adrenal gland disorder is a condition that affects the adrenal glands.
Steroids can cause glucose levels to rise in the blood or urine. Inform your doctor if diabetes is present. Inform your doctor that you are pregnant. Fluticasone topical, used long-term in pregnancy, can increase the risk of low birthweight for your baby. This medicine should be applied to the smallest area of skin and for as little time as possible in order to treat the condition. Breastfeeding may not be possible while taking this medication. You should ask your doctor if there are any risks. Avoid areas where the mouth of a baby may be in contact with fluticasone if you apply it to your chest. Beser should not be applied to a baby younger than three months. Cutivate is not recommended for children under 18 years of age. Fluticasone topical should only be used on children with a doctor’s approval. Children are more likely to experience side effects because they absorb more medication through their skin.
How to take Fluticasone topical?
Read and follow all instructions or guides provided with your medication and labeling, including following all label directions. Take oral medicines by mouth only; topical treatments must only be applied topically. Fluticasone should only be applied topically. Apply a thin layer to the affected area. Do not apply this medication over a large surface area without first consulting with your physician. Only cover your treated area on advice of your physician. Covering can increase how much medicine penetrates into your skin and lead to adverse side effects. If you are treating the diaper area, use only loose-fitting or plastic diapers. The medicine should only be used for a short time (4 weeks). Fluticasone is only to be used until the skin condition has cleared up. If your symptoms persist after two weeks of treatment, call your doctor. Store away from heat and moisture at room temperature. When not in use, keep the Beser Lotion tightly closed. Store the lotion away from the refrigerator.
What happens if I miss the dose?
If you are close to your next dose, skip the missed dose. Never apply two doses at once.
What happens if I overdose?
Call 1-800-222-1222 for poison help or seek immediate medical attention. Fluticasone can cause thinning of the skin, easy bleeding, changes in body weight (especially on your neck, face, back, and waist), acne, facial hair growth, menstrual issues, impotence, or loss of interest.
What should be avoided?
Avoid getting fluticasone topical into your eyes. Rinse with water if you do. Do not apply this medication to the face, underarms, or groin. Avoid applying it to thin skin. Fluticasone is not recommended for treating skin conditions that have not been examined by your doctor.
Interaction with other drug
Other drugs that you take are unlikely to affect the medicine applied to your skin. Many drugs interact with each other. Inform your healthcare provider about the medicines you take, including over-the-counter and prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
