What is Flurbiprofen ophthalmic?

The nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs are also known as flurbiprofen. Flurbiprofen (for the eyes) prevents your pupils from narrowing or constricting during eye surgery. Flurbiprofen ophthalmic can be used in other ways not mentioned in this guide.

Side effects of Flurbiprofen ophthalmic

If you experience any of the following signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction: difficulty breathing, hives, facial, lip or throat swelling and difficulty swallowing; seek medical assistance immediately.

Flurbiprofen can cause serious side effects. If you experience:

  • Eye pain or redness
  • Blood inside the eye.
  • Vision changes (your eyes could be more sensitive to the light);
  • You may experience severe itching, burning, or burning of the eyes.

  • Mild burning or stinging
  • Blurred or hazy vision

Warnings

Do not use it other than as directed. Inform your physician of any medications you are currently taking or any allergies or medical conditions you have, including allergies or any possible skin rashes.

Before you take this drug

If you have an allergy to this drug, do not take it.

Provide information to your physician if any of the following apply to you:

  • A bleeding or blood-clotting disorder;
  • Asthma;
  • A severe reaction such as sneezing or wheezing or a runny or stuffy nasal discharge after taking an NSAID

Flurbiprofen is not known to harm an unborn child. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Ask your doctor if you can safely breastfeed if you are using flurbiprofen eye drops. No one under 18 may use this product.

How to take Flurbiprofen ophthalmic?

Read and follow all instructions or guides included with your medication, and follow all the directions listed on its label. Flurbiprofen is given to the eye every 30 minutes, starting 2 hours prior to surgery. Before using eye medications, wash your hands. Apply the eye drops by pulling down your lower lid to create a pocket. Squeeze a few drops into this pocket. Close your eyes for a minute or two. Only use the number of drops prescribed. Only use it in both eyes if you have been instructed by your doctor. Avoid touching the tip of the dropper or placing it directly on your eye. A contaminated dropper may cause serious vision problems and infection of your eye. You will be given two bottles of flurbiprofen for both eyes. Use only one bottle for each eye. Store away from moisture or heat. When not in use, keep the bottles tightly closed.

What happens if I miss the dose?

If you missed the dose before surgery, call your doctor to get instructions. Flurbiprofen ophthalmic must be taken within 2 hours of surgery to be effective.

What happens if I overdose?

If anyone accidentally swallows the medicine, seek emergency medical care or call Poison Help at 1-800-222-1222.

What should be avoided?

Wear only contact lenses that have been prescribed by your doctor. You should only use eye drops prescribed by your doctor.

Interaction with other drug

Tell your doctor about your other medications, including:

  • A blood thinner: warfarin Coumadin Jantoven
  • Steroids are used to treat the eyes. These include dexamethasone (also known as difluprednate), fluocinolone (also known as fluorometholone), hydrocortisone (also called prednisolone), and many others.

Flurbiprofen can be affected by other drugs, such as prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products. Inform your doctor of all the other medications you take.
