What is Florastor?

Florastor is a particular type of yeast, also referred to by the names Brewer's Yeast, Hansen CBS 5926, Levure de Boulangerie, and Probiotic. Florastor has long been used as a probiotic, or "friendly bacteria," to aid in the prevention of harmful bacteria development within the stomach and intestines. Florastor may be beneficial in alternative medicine as an aid in stopping diarrhea, which is caused by taking antibiotics or using feeding tubes. This medication is also beneficial in treating diarrhea among infants and children. Florastor has been suggested as an effective treatment for stopping the recurrence of diarrhea caused by Clostridium difficile. But this medicine is not a good choice for treating the initial episodes of this kind of diarrhea. This medication could be beneficial for treating "traveler's diarrhea," diarrhea among people who suffer from HIV and stomach ulcers that are caused by Helicobacter pylori.

Other uses that aren't supported by research have included irritable bowel disorder, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, cystic fibrosis, urinary tract infections, yeast-related infections, intolerant lactose, and other ailments. It is not known if Florastor is effective in treating any medical issues. The use of this medicine is not accepted by the FDA. This medication is not to be used to replace the medication recommended by your physician. Florastor is usually advertised as an herbal supplement. There are no controlled manufacturing standards for many herbal substances, and a few supplements that are advertised have been identified as having contamination with harmful metals or substances. Purchase of quality herbal and health supplements should come from reliable sources to limit risk of contamination. A florist could be used for other purposes that are not covered in this guide to products.
