
What is Duzallo?
Duzallo is a combination of alopurinol and lesinurad. Allopurinol lowers the amount of uric acid in your body. Gout can be caused by a buildup of uric acid. Lesinurad is a kidney cleanser that helps remove uric acids from the body. Duzallo reduces blood levels of uric acid among adults suffering from gout. When allopurinol is not effective, this medicine may be prescribed.
Warnings
Duzallo should not be used if you suffer from severe kidney problems, Lesch-Nyhan syndrome, tumor lysis, or are on dialysis. Duzallo may cause kidney failure. Contact your doctor immediately if your urination is less frequent or absent, if you experience lower back pain or swelling of your ankles or feet, or if you feel short of breath. If you experience a severe reaction to Duzallo, like a painful, irritated, or blistering rash, stop taking it and seek emergency medical attention. You could also experience a fever, swollen lymph glands, or joint pain.
Side effects of Duzallo
If you experience symptoms of an allergic reaction to Duzallo, such as hives, difficulty breathing, swelling, or pain in the face or throat, or a severe reaction, such as a fever, sore throat, or burning in your eye, or skin pain or blistering, or if your skin is red or purple, seek emergency medical attention.
If you experience:
- A painful, itchy, or blistering rash on the skin (especially if there is also a fever or swelling of your glands or joints);
- Kidney disease: pain or discomfort in the side or lower back; nausea or vomiting; little or no urination; swelling of your ankles or feet; fatigue or shortness of breath.
- Liver problems include fatigue, nausea, dark urine, yellow stools or skin, itching, and a loss of appetite.
- Heart issues: chest pressure or pain spreading to the jaw or shoulder
- Signs of a Blood Clot: sudden numbness, weakness, difficulty with speech or vision, swelling, or redness on an arm or leg.
Common Duzallo side effects may include:
- Heartburn, nausea, and diarrhea;
- Headache;
- Rash;
- Abnormal kidney function tests

Before you take this drug
Duzallo should not be used if:
- Are You Suffering From Kidney Disease Or Are On Dialysis
- Tumor Lysis Syndrome (the rapid breakdown of cancer cells)
- Lesch-Nyhan syndrome;
- If you have had a kidney transplant,
Tell your doctor about any of the following to ensure that Duzallo will be safe for you:
- Kidney disease
- Liver disease
- Heart disease
- A stomach disorder known as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
Duzallo is not known to harm unborn babies.As soon as you become pregnant or are planning on becoming pregnant, notify your physician. Lesinurad may make birth control pills ineffective. Ask your doctor if you can use a non-hormonal birth control to prevent pregnancy (condoms, diaphragms with spermicide). Duzallo may not prevent pregnancy as well as other forms of hormonal contraception, such as injections, skin patches and rings, or certain intrauterine devices. Allopurinol or lesinurad may pass into breast milk, but it is unknown if this could harm a nursing infant. Inform your doctor if breastfeeding is taking place.
How to take Duzallo?
Follow the directions on your prescription label. Please follow all the instructions on the prescription label. Use this medication only as directed. Do not exceed the recommended dosage or use it for longer. Duzallo should be taken as one tablet in the morning. Duzallo should be taken along with food and water. To keep your kidneys functioning properly, drink at least 2 liters of liquid each day. Before and during the treatment, you may need to undergo medical tests in order to monitor your kidney function. You may need to test your blood cells frequently. Duzallo can make gout symptoms worse. Continue to use the medication even if your gout symptoms are worsening. If your symptoms of gout do not improve, call your doctor. Do not take Duzallo with Zurampic, a single-ingredient form of lesinurad. You could end up with an overdose. Follow the instructions of your doctor when taking any medication. Each medication comes with a patient instruction guide or medication guide. You should not alter your medication or dose schedule without consulting your doctor. Duzallo should be stored at room temperature, away from heat and moisture.

Adult Duzallo Dose:
Initial dose:
Patients taking doses of allopurinol greater than 300 mg/day: Orally, Allopurinol 200 mg, Lesinurad 300mg
Patients taking 300 mg/day of allopurinol: Orally, Allopurinol 200 mg; Lesinurad 300 mg
Patients taking 200 mg of allopurinol per day: Orally, take 200 mg each of lesinurad and 200 mg of allopurinol.
Comments:
This drug should be taken in an amount equivalent to the daily dose of allopurinol.
Patients taking lesinurad concurrently with allopurinol should take the drug at an equal portion and replace lesinurad.
Patients who are not taking lesinurad should consider a prophylactic treatment for gout flares.
Patients who experience flare-ups of gout during treatment must be managed. It is not necessary to stop the treatment.
Use: Treatment of hyperuricemia and gout associated with allopurinol in patients who do not achieve target serum uric acid levels after medically appropriate doses
What happens if I miss the dose?
Do not take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose. Take no extra medicine to make up for the missed dose.
What happens if I overdose?
Call 1-800-222-1222 for poison help or seek immediate medical attention. An overdose can cause nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
What should be avoided?
Do not become dehydrated when taking this medication. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience diarrhea or vomiting that continues or if sweating is more frequent than normal. Dehydration can lead to kidney failure. Duzallo can impair your reactions or thinking. You should be careful when driving or doing anything else that requires alertness.
Interaction with other drug
Allopurinol, lesinurad, and other drugs can interact. This list does not include all possible interactions. Tell your doctor if you are taking any new medications or if you will stop taking any of your current ones.
- Aspirin;
- Azthioprine (mercaptopurine)
- Valproic acid
- Antibiotics or antifungal medicines;
- A blood thinner (warfarin; coumadin; jantoven);
- Cholesterol medication
- Heart or blood pressure medications;
- Hormonal birth control (pills, patches, implants, or certain intrauterine devices);
- Other gout medications
Allopurinol, lesinurad, and other drugs may interact with each other. Included are prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products. Provide a list to your healthcare provider.
