Acetaminophen can help relieve fever and soothe discomfort. Pseudoephedrine works as a nasal decongestant by shrinking blood vessels. Dilated blood vessels can cause congestion in the nasal passages. Dristan Cold Non-Drowsy is an anti-allergy medicine that treats headaches, body aches, and sinus congestion due to allergies, colds, or flu. Dristan Cold Non-Drowsy can be used in other ways not mentioned in this guide.
Side effects of Dristan cold Non-drowsy
If you experience symptoms indicative of an allergic reaction, such as hives, difficulty breathing or swelling of lips, face, tongue or throat - immediately seek medical assistance. Acetaminophen can cause serious skin reactions that could prove lethal - even if taken before without experiencing adverse side effects. Call your doctor immediately if you experience skin redness, blistering, or peeling.
The medicine can cause serious side effects. If you experience:
- Heart rate can be fast, slow, or uneven.
- Confusion, hallucinations;
- Tremor, seizure (convulsions);
- Little or no urinating is acceptable.
- Dark urine, clay-colored stools, nausea, upper abdominal pain, itching, and loss of appetite
- The symptoms of dangerous hypertension include severe headaches, blurred visions, buzzing in the ears, anxiety and confusion, chest discomfort, shortness of breath, seizures.
Dristan's non-drowsy side effects may include:
- Dizziness, weakness;
- Mild headache
- Mild nausea, diarrhea, upset stomach;
- Runny nose
- Feeling nervous, restless, or anxious
- Sleep problems (insomnia).

If you've ever suffered from liver disease or drink more than three alcoholic drinks per day, you should consult a doctor prior to taking acetaminophen. This medicine should not be used if you suffer from uncontrolled or untreated diseases, such as untreated or uncontrolled glaucoma or COPD; high blood pressure; heart disease or coronary arterial disease; or an overactive thyroid. Avoid alcohol. Acetaminophen can increase the risk of liver damage. If you've taken MAO inhibitors in the last 14 days, don't use cold medicines. A harmful drug interaction may occur. MAO inhibitors are furazolidone and isocarboxazid. They also include linezolid phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, and Tranylcypromine. Acetaminophen can cause severe skin reactions in rare cases. If you notice skin redness, a rash, blistering, or peeling of the skin, stop taking this medication and contact your doctor immediately.

Before you take this drug
If you've ever had liver problems or drink more than three alcoholic drinks per day, you should consult your doctor before taking acetaminophen-containing medicines. Dristan Cold Non-Drowsy should not be used if you're allergic to acetaminophen or pseudoephedrine (Tylenol), or if your condition is uncontrolled or untreated, such as COPD or asthma, high blood pressure, heart disease or coronary artery diseases, or an overactive thyroid.
If you've taken MAO inhibitors in the last 14 days, don't use cough and cold medicines.Possible drug interactions could result in potentially hazardous outcomes.MAO inhibitors are furazolidone (isocarboxazid), linezolid (phenelzine), rasagiline (selegiline), and tranylcypromine.
If you suffer from:
- A history of alcoholism, liver disease, or cirrhosis;
- Diabetes;
- Epilepsy or another seizure disorder
- Pheochromocytoma
- Urination or prostate problems
Dristan Non-Drowsy is not known to harm unborn babies. If you are pregnant, do not take cough and cold medicines without consulting your doctor. Acetaminophen, pseudoephedrine, and other drugs can pass through breast milk. This may cause harm to a nursing infant. Decongestants can also reduce breast milk production. If you are pregnant, do not take cough and cold medicines without consulting your doctor. Never give cough or cold medications to very young children without consulting a doctor.
How to take Dristan Cold Non-Drowsy?
Do not exceed the recommended dosage. Use only as directed. Cold medicines are usually only taken for a few days until symptoms disappear. Don't take more than is recommended. Acetaminophen overdose can result in liver damage or even lead to immediate fatality. Chew the chewable tablet before swallowing it. If you continue to have a high fever or pain for more than 7 days (or five days in the case of a child), or if any of your symptoms worsen, such as a rash or swelling, call your doctor. Tell your doctor or surgeon immediately, if you have taken this medication within the last week and if medical testing or surgery will be needed. Store away from heat and moisture at room temperature.
What happens if I miss the dose?
Dristan Cold Non-Drowsy can be taken as needed. You may not have a regular dosing regimen. Take the missed dose immediately if you take the medication regularly. Rather, wait until the time for your next scheduled dosage and skip any missed pills in order to compensate. Doing otherwise would only result in increased medication being taken than necessary, leading to even greater side effects than anticipated.
What happens if I overdose?
Call the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222 or seek emergency medical care. Acetaminophen overdoses can be deadly. Loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain, sweating, or confusion are the first signs of an overdose of acetaminophen.Other symptoms could be dark urine and yellowing of skin or whites of eyes.
