What is Dhivy?

Dhivy is a combination of medicines used for treating symptoms such as stiffness and tremors that are associated with Parkinson’s disease. The dhivy plant is used for treating Parkinson's symptoms that are caused by manganese or carbon monoxide toxicity. This medication guide does not list all possible uses for Dhivy.

Side effects of Dhivy

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergy reaction, seek immediate medical attention: difficulty breathing, hives, swelling in your lips, face, throat, or tongue.

Dhivy can cause severe side effects. If you experience:

  • Uncontrolled facial movements (such as lip-smacking, frowning, and tongue movement)
  • Tremors that are worse (uncontrolled shaking)
  • Severe or ongoing vomiting or diarrhea;
  • Confusion, hallucinations, or unusual moods and behaviors;
  • Depression and suicidal thoughts
  • Severe nervous system reaction: very stiff muscles (rigid), high fever, sweating, and confusion. Fast or irregular heartbeats. Tremors. Feeling like you may pass out.

Dhivy can cause people to fall asleep while doing normal activities during the day, such as driving, working, speaking, or eating. Inform your doctor of any daytime sleepiness or drowsiness. Dhivy may cause you to have intense sexual desires, gambling urges, or unusual impulses. If this happens, talk to your doctor. Your urine or saliva may appear dark, like red or brown. It is not harmful, but your clothing or sheets may be stained.

Dhivy can cause a variety of side effects, including:

  • The jerky movements of the muscles
  • Headache, dizziness;
  • Low blood pressure Feeling Light-headed
  • Sleep problems, strange dreams;
  • Dry mouth
  • Muscle contractions
  • Nausea, vomiting, and constipation.

Warnings

Use this medication only if you are not taking any MAO inhibitors, including isocarboxazid or linezolid.

Before you take this drug

Dhivy should not be used if:

  • Narrow-angle glaucoma.

You should not take this medication if you've taken an MAO inhibitor in the last 14 days. A dangerous drug interaction may occur. Some MAO inhibitors are isocarboxazid (linezolid), methylene blue injection, phenelzine, and tranylcypromine.

If you've ever:

  • Heart disease or high blood pressure.
  • Liver or kidney disease
  • An endocrine (hormonal) disorder;
  • Asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (copd), and other breathing disorders;
  • A stomach or intestinal ulcer
  • Open-angle glaucoma;
  • Depression, mental illness, or psychosis.

It is possible that the disintegrating tablet contains phenylalanine. Inform your doctor of any phenylketonuria. A higher rate of cancerous skin may be seen in people with Parkinson's. Speak to your doctor to learn more about the risk of skin cancer and how to recognize it. Inform your doctor of any pregnancy or nursing.

How to take Dhivy?

You must wait at least 12 hours after stopping levodopa before starting Dhivy. Read all the instructions or guides that come with your medication and follow the directions. Sometimes, your doctor will change the dose. You must take the medication exactly as prescribed. This medicine can be taken with or without meals. Do not open, crush, chew, or break the capsule. Sometimes the tablet can be broken into two halves to get the right dose. Never chew or crush a tablet. Orally disintegrating tablets can be placed in the mouth without chewing. Your symptoms may not improve for several weeks. Tell your doctor immediately if you do not see any improvement in your symptoms. Inform your doctor immediately if you notice that the medicine's effects are fading quickly. You may require frequent medical testing if you take this medication for a long time. It can interfere with certain tests. Dhivy can affect the results of certain medical tests. You may experience unpleasant withdrawal symptoms if you suddenly stop taking Dhivy. You should ask your doctor about how you can safely discontinue this medication. Keep away from heat, moisture, and light.

What happens if I miss the dose?

If you are almost due for the next dose, skip the missed one. Never take more than one dose at a time. Refill your prescription before it runs out.

What happens if I overdose?

Call 1-800-222-1222 for poison help or seek immediate medical attention.

What should be avoided?

Do not drive or engage in hazardous activities until you are sure of how Dhivy affects you. You may have impaired reactions. You may get dizzy if you stand up quickly from a seated or lying position. Take iron supplements and eat a high-protein diet. Dhivy can be harder to absorb and digest if you consume iron supplements or eat a high-protein diet. Speak to your doctor about what foods you should eat and avoid.

Interaction with other drug

Dhivy can be affected by other drugs, such as prescription, over-the-counter, herbal, or other products. Inform your doctor of all the medicines you are currently taking and those that you have started or stopped using.
