What is Dexedrine Spansule?

Dexedrine Spansule Tablets and Oral Solution (liquid) are used to treat ADHD in children aged 3–16 years. Dexedrine Spansule Extended-Release Capsules are used for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity (ADHD) among children aged 6–16 years. Dexedrine Spansule Skin Patch is used for treating attention deficit hyperactivity (ADHD) among adults and children older than 6 years. Dexedrine Spansules, oral solution (liquid), and extended-release tablets are used to treat a sleep disorder known as narcolepsy. Dexedrine Spansule can be used in other ways not mentioned in this guide.

Side effects of Dexedrine Spansule

If you experience symptoms of an allergic response (hives or difficulty breathing, swelling on your face or in your throat) or a severe reaction to the skin (fever or sore throat with burning eyes or skin, blistering or peeling skin, or red or purple rash), seek emergency medical attention. Certain stimulants can cause strokes, heart attacks, and sudden deaths in some people. Should any of these symptoms develop, seek immediate medical assistance immediately.

Dexedrine Spansule can cause serious side effects. If you experience:

  • Signs of blood circulation or heart problems include chest pain, difficulty breathing, numbness or cold sensations, or paleness of the fingers or toes.

  • Signs of mania and psychosis include: seeing or hearing something that is not real; aggressiveness; paranoia or decreased sleep needs; talkativeness or agitation; or being overly talkative.

  • A seizure (tic), changes in vision, blurred vision;

  • Mild skin irritation could occur where a patch has been worn.

If you experience symptoms of serotonin disorder, including agitation or hallucinations, a rapid heartbeat, muscle stiffness, and twitching, Dexedrine Spansule can affect growth in children. If your child's growth isn't normal while taking Dexedrine Spansule, tell your doctor.

Dexedrine Spansule side effects may include:

  • Dry mouth, nausea, lack of appetite, and weight loss

  • Headache, dizziness (insomnia), irritability, and muscle twitching

  • Increased blood pressure, tremors, and fast heartbeats.

Warnings

This medicine should not be used if you suffer from glaucoma or an overactive thyroid. You may also have moderate to severe hypertension or heart disease. Dexedrine Spansule can be addictive.Abusing Dexedrine Spansule may lead to addiction, heart conditions or even death. If you experience chest pain, are agitated, have a decreased need to sleep, or have unexplained injuries on your fingers and toes, call your doctor immediately.

Before you take this drug

Dexedrine Spansule should not be used if:

  • Heart problems, moderate to severe hypertension, or coronary artery diseases (clogged arteries);

  • Overactive thyroid and glaucoma

  • Severe anxiety, tension, or agitation (stimulant medicines can make symptoms worse).

  • A history of drug or alcohol addiction.

Dexedrine Spansule should not be used if MAO inhibitors have been taken within the last 14 days. Harmful drug interactions may occur. MAO inhibitors are isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene green injection, phenelzine, transylcypromine, and others.Inform your doctor if other medications are being used for migraine headaches, depression, mental illness (Parkinson's disease), serious infections, or nausea and vomiting prevention. A serious condition known as serotonin syndrome could be caused by an interaction with Dexedrine capsules.

Tell your doctor about any of the following:

  • A heart defect, a high blood pressure level, or a history of heart disease in the family;

  • Depression, mental illness, bipolar disorder, or suicidal thoughts and actions

  • Tourette syndrome or motor tics (muscle twitches)

  • A brainwave abnormality (EEG) can be used to diagnose epilepsy or seizures.

  • Contact dermatitis;

  • Peripheral arterial disease, such as Raynaud’s syndrome.

  • Kidney disease is a serious condition.

Informing your physician of any pregnancy or plans to become pregnant is crucial. Using Dexedrine Spansule while pregnant may increase your risk of premature delivery, withdrawal symptoms, or low birthweight. You may find your name on a registry for pregnant women to monitor the effects of the Dextroamphetamine Skin Patch on the baby. Dexedrine Spansule should not be used while breastfeeding.

How to take Dexedrine Spansule?

Read and follow any instructions or guides included with your medication, even when your dose may have changed from what was originally prescribed by your physician. Keep to this regimen precisely and do not let Dexedrine Spansule become part of your regular regimen - taking Dexedrine may become habit-forming! Abuse of Dexedrine may result in addiction, heart conditions, death or serious cardiovascular conditions; for this reason it must be stored securely so that others cannot gain access. Furthermore it is illegal to sell or give this medication away and take two or three capsules twice or three times each day as directed on its packaging. Extended-release medicine should only be taken once daily, on clean, dry, hairless skin. Apply the patch as directed for approximately 10 seconds when pressing it firmly against it; leave on during bathing, swimming or showering sessions and remove within nine hours to get optimal effects.

Each time you apply the patch, choose a different area of your body. Apply the patch to a different area of skin each time. Wear only one patch at any given time. Only use one patch per day. Never cut skin patches. Do not chew, crush, break, or open the Dexedrine Spansule Extended Release Capsule. Use only the measuring device provided when administering liquid medications; do not attempt to measure with anything from your kitchen. You will be required to have your doctor check on you regularly. You may require medical tests. Inform any doctor that you see about your use of this medication.Changes to brand, strength or form of medicine could alter dose requirements. Use only medications prescribed by your physician in order to avoid medication errors and errors caused by taking multiple pills at once. Store away from moisture, heat and light at room temperature for optimal conditions. Follow the instructions that come with your medicine to dispose of any portion you don't need. Dexedrine Spansule Skin Patch should not be flushed down the toilet.

What happens if I miss the dose?

Do not take the missed dose. Use your next dose as usual. Do not take two doses in one go.

What happens if I overdose?

Call Poison Help at 1-800-222-1222 or seek emergency medical care. Dexedrine Spansule overdose can be fatal. Overdose symptoms include restlessness and rapid breathing. They may also include hallucinations or aggressive behavior, nausea, diarrhea, unsteady heartbeats, and fainting.

What should be avoided?

Dexedrine Spansule can cause blurred vision or affect your reaction. Do not drive or engage in any hazardous activities until you have determined how the medicine will affect you. While wearing Dexedrine Spansule, avoid external heat sources such as hair dryers or heat lamps. Avoid taking vitamin C or fruit juices while taking Dexedrine Spansule. They can cause your body to absorb less medicine.

Interaction with other drug

At times it can be hazardous to combine certain medications at once. Some can alter blood levels of other medicines you take, potentially increasing side effects or rendering them ineffective. Inform your physician of all medications you are currently taking.

 Dexedrine Spansule can be affected by many drugs, including:

  • An antacid, migraine headache medicine, seizure medicine;

  • Fentanyl, tramadol, lithium, and buspirone;

  • Acetazolamide, tryptophan, methenamine, and vitamin c products;

  • Antidepressants, diuretics, or "water pills" are all examples of this.

  • Blood pressure medications

Dexedrine Spansule may be affected by many other drugs not listed here. This includes prescription, over-the-counter, herbal, vitamins, and other products. This list does not include all possible interactions with drugs.
