What is Detrol LA?
Adults can use Detrol La to treat an overactive bladder that has symptoms such as frequent urination, urgency, or incontinence. This medication guide does not list all possible uses of Detrol.
Side effects of Detrol LA
If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergy reaction, seek immediate medical attention: difficulty breathing or swelling in your lips, face, throat, or tongue.
Detrol LA can cause severe side effects. Detrol LA should be stopped immediately, and you must call your doctor if:
- Confusion, hallucinations;
- Constipation or severe abdominal pain
- Urination that is painful or difficult
Detrol La may cause the following side effects:
- Dry mouth
- Dizziness;
- Constipation;
- Stomach pain
- Headache.
There may be other side effects. Call your doctor if experiencing side effects; to report these side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.
Warnings
Do not use it other than as prescribed. Inform your doctor of any other medications you are taking or if there is a medical condition or allergy.
Before you take this drug
Detrol LA should not be used if:
- Trouble emptying your bowels?
- A blockage of the stomach can cause slow digestion.
- Uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma
If you've ever:
- A stomach or intestinal problem;
- Constipation is a common problem.
- Liver Disease
- Kidney disease
- Myasthenia gravis;
- An insufficient urine flow or difficulty emptying your bladder are symptoms that indicate there may be something amiss within.
- Glaucoma;
- Long QT Syndrome
Informing your physician of any pregnancy or breastfeeding may help ensure appropriate support during gestation and lactation.
How to take Detrol LA?
Read and follow all instructions that accompany your medication, whether that means reading instructions from packaging materials or following directions on its labels.Follow the directions on your prescription label. Take water. Detrol LA can be taken with or without meals, but at the same time each day. Do not open, crush or chew the capsule. Keep away from heat, moisture, and light.
What happens if I miss the dose?
Do not use the missed dose. Use your regular dose. Use only one dose per day.
What happens if I overdose?
Call our poison hotline on 1-800-222-1222 immediately if you suspect a toxic exposure and/or seek immediate medical advice.
What should be avoided?
Detrol LA can affect your reactions. Avoid dangerous activities until you are familiar with how they will impact you. You may be unable to react properly.
Interaction with other drug
Detrol LA may cause serious heart problems. You are at greater risk if you use other medications for heart disease, high blood pressure, HIV and mental illnesses.
Inform your doctor of all other medications you are taking, including:
- Cyclosporine;
- Vinblastine.
