
What is Delsym Cough Plus Cold Day Time?
Acetaminophen relieves pain and reduces fever. Dextromethorphan suppresses coughing. It works by affecting the brain signals that cause the cough reflex. Guaifenesin acts as an expectorant. Guaifenesin helps to loosen up congestion and coughing in the chest, throat, and lungs. Phenylephrine works to shrink blood vessels that dilate in the nasal passages and may contribute to nasal congestion. If that is your problem, take note that dilation could also contribute to it! The combination drug Delsym Cough plus Cold Day Time treats headaches, fevers, body pains, congestion in the chest, stuffy nasal passages, sinus congestion, and allergies. The Delsym Cold Day Time is not intended to treat coughs caused by asthma or emphysema, nor those that are the result of smoking. Delsym Cough plus Cold Day Time can be used in other ways not mentioned in the medication guide.
Side effects of Delsym Cough Plus Cold Day Time
If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergy: difficulty breathing, hives, swelling in your lips, face, throat, or tongue Acetaminophen can cause severe reactions in some cases. This is even true if the person has taken it before and not had any reaction. Call your doctor immediately if the skin becomes red or you develop a rash. If blisters form and you peel them off, stop taking this medication.
The side effects of this medicine can be serious. If you experience:
- Chest pain with a fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat;
- Severe dizziness, feeling like you might pass out;
- Mood changes, confusion, and hallucinations
- Tremor, seizure (convulsions);
- Fever;
- Urinating less or not at any time
- Dark urine, clay-colored stools, nausea (pain in the upper abdomen), itching, and loss of appetite
- High blood pressure can be dangerous (headache, nausea, buzzing or ringing in the ears, heart palpitations, irregular heartbeats, and seizures).
Some of the common side effects that Delsym Cough plus Cold Day Time can cause include:
- Dizziness, weakness;
- Mild headache
- Mild nausea, diarrhea, upset stomach;
- Dry mouth, throat, or nose;
- Feeling nervous, restless, or irritable
- Sleep problems (insomnia).

Warnings
You should not take this medication if you've taken an MAO inhibitor in the last 14 days. A serious drug interaction may occur. The MAO inhibitors are isocarboxazid linezolid, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, and transylcypromine. Don't take this medicine in excess. Overdosing on acetaminophen may cause liver damage or death. Acetaminophen can cause severe reactions in rare instances. If you notice skin redness, a rash, or blisters that are peeling off and spreading on your body, stop taking the medicine immediately and contact your doctor.
Before you take this drug
If you've taken MAO inhibitors in the last 14 days, do not take this medication. It is possible that a dangerous drug interaction will occur. The MAO inhibitors are furazolidone (isocarboxazid), linezolid (phenelzine), rasagiline, and selegiline. This medication should not be used if you have an allergy to dextromethorphan or any of the other ingredients. If you are suffering from any other health conditions or symptoms, you should consult your doctor before taking this medication.
- Alcoholism or liver disease;
- high blood pressure or recent coronary artery diseases;
- Diabetes;
- Glaucoma;
- Epilepsy and other seizure disorders
- urination or prostate problems;
- If you have a cough that is mucus-related or has been caused by emphysema or chronic lung disease,
- pheochromocytoma
- Overactive thyroid.
Delsym Cough plus Cold Day Time isn't known to harm a developing baby. If you're pregnant, do not take this medication without consulting your doctor. Acetaminophen (or dextromethorphan), guaifenesin, and phenylephrine can pass through breast milk and harm nursing babies. Decongestants can also reduce breast milk production. If you're breastfeeding, do not take this medication without consulting your doctor.Phenylalanine can be found in artificially sweetened liquid medicines. If you have phenylketonuria, check the label of your medication.
How to take Delsym Cough Plus Cold Day Time?
Do not exceed the recommended dosage or duration. Use only the recommended dose. Do not exceed it. This medication is typically taken for only a few days until the symptoms disappear.Don't take this medicine in excess. Acetaminophen can cause liver damage or death if taken in excess.This medication should not be given to children younger than four years of age. Ask a doctor first before you give cough medicine or cold medicine to your child. Children as young as 4 years old can die from misuse. Do not use a normal table spoon to measure liquid medicines. Use a dose-measuring spoon, medicine cup, or medicine spout. Consult a pharmacist if necessary. One packet should be dissolved in 8 ounces or more of boiling water. Drink immediately after stirring the hot liquid. Take the medicine for no more than seven days. If you continue to have symptoms after three days, if the pain persists after seven days, or five days for children, if they worsen, or if you develop a rash or have an ongoing headache or redness, call your doctor. Tell your doctor or surgeon if this medication was taken within the last few days and if you are going to need medical testing or surgery. Keep away from heat and moisture. Liquid medications should never be allowed to freeze.
What happens if I miss the dose?
Delsym Cough Plus is taken as needed, and you do not need to follow a schedule. Use the missed dose if you have a regular schedule as soon as possible. If the time for your next dose approaches quickly, skip any missed ones and wait to take your scheduled dosage.You should not take extra medication to compensate for a missed dose.
What happens if I overdose?
Call the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222 or seek emergency medical care. Acetaminophen overdoses can lead to death.Loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain, sweating, or confusion are the first symptoms of an overdose of acetaminophen. Other symptoms include dark urine and yellowing skin or whites of the eyes.
What should be avoided?
Alcohol is not recommended. You may be at greater risk for liver damage if you take acetaminophen. Before using any other medication for colds, allergies, pain, or insomnia, consult your doctor or pharmacist. Many combination medications contain acetaminophen, sometimes abbreviated as APAP. You can get an overdose of acetaminophen by taking certain medications together. You can check the labels of medicines to determine if they contain acetaminophen. The medication can affect your ability to think or react. Care should always be taken when driving or engaging in activities which require alertness.
Interaction with other drug
Before using this medication, ask your doctor or pharmacist if you also use any other medications, such as prescriptions and OTC medicines, vitamins, and herbs. When used in combination, some medicines may cause harmful or unwanted effects.
