What is DayQuil Severe Cold and Flu?

Acetaminophen relieves pain and lowers the fever. Dextromethorphan works as a cough suppressant. It works by affecting the signals that are sent to the brain. Guaifenesin acts as an expectorant. This expectorant helps to loosen up congestion in the chest and throat. It makes it easier for you to cough through your mouth. Phenylephrine shrinks the blood vessels in the nasal passages. Dilated vessels in the nasal passages can lead to congestion. The combination of DayQuil and Severe Cold and Flu is used to treat headaches and other symptoms such as fever, body pains, congestion in the chest, congestion due to allergies, and stuffy nose and sinus congestion. It can also be used for the treatment of the common cold or the flu. DayQuil Severe Flu and Cold will not treat coughs caused by smoking or asthma. DayQuil Severe colds and flu may be used in other ways not mentioned in the medication guide.

Side effects of DayQuil Severe Cold and Flu

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergy: difficulty breathing, hives, swelling in your lips, face, throat, or tongue Acetaminophen can cause severe reactions in some cases. This is even true if the person has taken it before and not had any reaction. Call your doctor immediately if the skin becomes red or you develop a rash. If blisters form and you peel them off, stop taking this medication.

The side effects of this medicine can be serious. If you experience:

  • Chest pain with a fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat;
  • Feeling dizzy to the point where it seems you may faint;
  • Mood changes, confusion, and hallucinations
  • Tremor, seizure (convulsions);
  • Fever;
  • Urinating less or not at any time
  • Nausea; pains in the upper abdomen; itching; loss of appetite; and dark urine.
  • Symptoms of dangerous hypertension include severe headaches, blurred or buzzing visions, anxiety, and chest pain.

Side effects that may occur with dayquil Severe Flu and Cold include:

  • Dizziness, weakness;
  • Mild headache
  • Mild nausea, diarrhea, upset stomach;
  • Dry throat or nose;
  • Feeling nervous, restless, or irritable
  • Sleep problems (insomnia).

Warnings

You should not take this medication if you've taken an MAO inhibitor in the last 14 days. A dangerous drug interaction may occur. The MAO inhibitors are isocarboxazid (linezolid), phenelzine (rasagiline), selegiline (tranylcypromine), and rasagiline. Don't take this medicine in excess. Overdosing on acetaminophen may cause liver damage or death. Acetaminophen can cause severe reactions in rare instances. If you notice skin redness, a rash, or blistering that causes peeling and blistering on your skin, then stop taking the medicine immediately and contact your doctor.

Before you take this drug

If you've taken an MAO inhibitor in the last 14 days, do not take this medication. It is possible that a dangerous drug interaction will occur. The MAO inhibitors are furazolidone, phenelzine, selegiline, rasagiline, and tranylcypromine. This medication should not be used if you have an allergy to dextromethorphan or any of the other ingredients. If you are suffering from any other health conditions or symptoms, you should consult your doctor before taking this medication.

  • Drinking more than three alcoholic drinks daily increases your risk for liver diseases or alcoholism.
  • Heart disease or a recent cardiac attack?
  • Diabetes;
  • Glaucoma;
  • Epilepsy
  • Urination or prostate problems;
  • If you have a cough that is mucus-related or if it's caused by chronic lung disease, then this could be the cause.
  • Pheochromocytoma
  • Overactive thyroid.

DayQuil Severe colds and flu may harm an unborn child. If you're pregnant, consult your doctor before taking this medication. Acetaminophen and dextromethorphan can pass through breast milk, causing harm to a baby who is nursing. Decongestants can also reduce breast milk production. If you're breastfeeding, do not take this medication without consulting your doctor. Phenylalanine can be found in artificially sweetened liquid medicines. If you have phenylketonuria, check the label of your medication.

How to take DayQuil Severe Cold and Flu?

Do not exceed the recommended dosage or duration. Use only the recommended dose. Do not exceed it. This medication is typically taken for only a few days until the symptoms disappear. Don't take this medicine in excess. Acetaminophen can cause liver damage or death if taken in excess. Children younger than four years should not take this medication. Ask a doctor first before you give cough medicine or cold medicine to your child. Children as young as 4 years old can die from misuse. Do not use a normal table spoon to measure liquid medicines. Use a dose-measuring cup or spoon. Ask your pharmacist for a dosage-measuring device if you don't have one. One packet should be dissolved in 8 ounces or more of boiling water. Drink immediately after stirring the hot liquid.

Take the medicine for no more than seven days. If you continue to have symptoms after three days, if the pain persists after seven days, or five days for children, if they worsen, if there is a persistent headache or redness, call your doctor. Tell your doctor or surgeon if this medication has been taken within the last few days and if you are going to need medical testing or surgery. Keep away from heat and moisture.Liquid medicines must not be allowed to freeze.

What happens if I miss the dose?

DayQuil Severe Flu and Cold is taken as needed. You may not have a schedule. Use the missed dose as quickly as possible if you're on a dosing schedule. If your next dose is approaching, skip the missed dose. You should not take extra medication to compensate for a missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

Reach the Poison Help Line immediately on 1-800-222-1222 if experiencing symptoms related to poison, or seek emergency medical assistance as soon as possible.Acetaminophen overdoses can lead to death. Loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, stomach pain, excessive sweating, and confusion or weakness are the first symptoms of an overdose of acetaminophen. Other symptoms include dark urine and yellowing skin or whites of the eyes.

What should be avoided?

Alcohol is not recommended. You may be at greater risk for liver damage if you take acetaminophen. Before using other pain relievers, sleep aids, or allergy or cold medications, consult your doctor or pharmacist. Many combination medications contain acetaminophen, also known as APAP. You can get an overdose of acetaminophen by taking certain medications together. You can check the label of a medication to determine if it contains acetaminophen. The medication can affect your ability to think or react. You should be careful when driving or doing anything else that involves being alert.

Interaction with other drug

Before using this medication, ask your doctor or pharmacist if you also use any other medications, such as prescription medicines and over-the-counter drugs. When used in combination, some medicines may cause harmful or unwanted effects. This medication guide does not list all interactions. This medicine can have a negative effect if taken with drugs that cause you to sleep or reduce your breathing. You should consult your doctor if you are taking dextromethorphan and phenylephrine along with sleeping pills, pain relievers, muscle relaxers, anxiety medications, depression, or seizure medicines.
