What is Chlorzoxazone?

Chlorzoxazone, a muscle relaxant, is used in conjunction with physical therapy and rest to treat conditions of the skeletal muscles, such as pain. This medication guide does not list all possible uses of chlorzoxazone.

Side effects of Chlorzoxazone

Observing symptoms of an allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing, hives or swelling to your lips or throat should prompt prompt medical assistance.

Chloroxazone may cause serious side effects. Call your doctor immediately if:

  • Experience dizziness or lightheadedness that makes you think that passing out is imminent.
  • Skin rash or itching;
  • Liver problems: stomach pain (upper right), nausea, vomiting, or fever; dark urine or jaundice.
  • Signs of stomach bleeding include bloody stools, vomiting that looks like coffee grounds, or coughing up blood.

Some of the common side effects associated with chlorzoxazone include:

  • Drowsiness;
  • Dizziness;
  • General ill feeling.

Before you take this drug

If you have an allergy to chlorzoxazone, then it is best not to use this product.

Tell your doctor immediately of any of the following symptoms:

  • Liver disease.

Notify your doctor immediately if you become pregnant or breastfeeding, since he or she must make special considerations and inform the mother and infant accordingly. Chlorzoxazone should not be used by anyone under the age of 18.

How to take chlorzoxazone medication?

Read all the instructions or guides that come with your medication and follow the directions. Sometimes, your doctor will change the dose. As directed, take your medication exactly as prescribed. Take chloroxazone 3–4 times daily. Do not neglect to follow your physician's orders. Chlorzoxazone may be part of a comprehensive treatment programme that includes rest, physical therapy, or other measures to relieve pain. Please follow your doctor's advice. Store away from heat and moisture at room temperature.

Details on dosage

Adult dose for muscle spasm:
Initial dose: 250–500 mg orally, 3–4 times per day.
If response is inadequate, increase dosage to 750mg orally three or four times per day.
Comments:
As the patient improves, reduce the dose.
Use: As a supplement to physical therapy and rest for acute, painful musculoskeletal disorders.

What happens if I miss the dose?

If it is almost time for your next dose, do not double up on both medications at once. Always wait to take two doses on separate occasions.

What happens if I overdose?

Call 1-800-222-1222 immediately if you suspect poisoning. Or seek emergency medical attention right away by seeking help at 1-800-222-1222 or immediately visiting a healthcare facility. Overdose symptoms include nausea and vomiting. Diarrhoea may also be present.

What should be avoided?

Alcohol consumption with chlorzoxazone may cause adverse effects. Before driving or engaging in risky activities while taking medication, make sure you know its effects on you. You may be unable to react properly.

Interaction with other drug

The use of chlorzoxazone in conjunction with other drugs can increase this effect. Before taking an opioid, sleeping pill, muscle relaxer, or medicine to treat anxiety or seizures, consult your doctor. Other drugs, such as vitamins and herbal remedies, may also affect chlorzoxazone. Inform your doctor of all the medicines you are taking and those that you stop or start using.
