Side effects of Calcium carbonate
If you experience any of the following signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction: hives, difficulty breathing or swelling in your face, lips or throat - seek immediate medical assistance immediately!
Calcium carbonate may cause serious side effects. If you experience:
- Little or no urinating is acceptable.
- Rapid weight gain or swelling
- High levels of calciumare accompanied by nausea, vomiting, constipation, muscle pain, fatigue, and confusion.

Before you take this drug
If you have had:
- Kidney disease
- Kidney stone
- Cancer;
- Parathyroid disorder;
- High levels of calcium in the blood
You may need a different dose during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
How to take Calcium carbonate?
Do not exceed the recommended dosage or duration. Use the recommended dose and do not exceed it. You can check the label to determine if you should take your calcium carbonate with or without food. Take the calcium carbonate tablet and a glass of water. Chew the chewable tablet before swallowing it. Just before measuring doses of liquid oral suspension medicine, shake well. Use either the dosing syringe provided, a dose-measuring cup or spoon, or contact your pharmacist if you don't own such devices for measuring. Follow the instructions on how to use calcium carbonate powder. Consume the mixture after the powder has dissolved completely. Calcium carbonate is only one part of an overall treatment programme that includes diet changes. Find out which foods contain calcium. You may need to adjust your calcium carbonate dosage as you change your diet. You should follow your doctor's advice. Store away from moisture or heat at room temperature. Store at room temperature, away from moisture and heat.
What happens if I miss the dose?
Once you become aware, take your missed dose as soon as you remember; if your next scheduled dosage is imminent, skip it; do not attempt to make up for a missing dose with additional medicine; this could further compromise health outcomes.

What should be avoided?
Before taking any antacids, multivitamins, or mineral supplements, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Interaction with other drug
Calcium can interfere with the absorption of certain medications. Take other medications at least two hours before or four or six hours after taking calcium carbonate. Calcium carbonate can interact with other drugs, such as vitamins and herbal remedies. Inform your doctor of all the medicines you are currently taking and those that you have started or stopped using.
