What is Benztropine?

Benztropine is one of the drugs used to treat signs that are a result of Parkinson's illness, including stiffness and shaking.

Benztropine is also used for treating Parkinson's-like symptoms that are caused by certain medications.Benztropine can also be utilized to treat conditions that are not covered in the medication guide.

Side effects of Benztropine

Benztropine may cause serious side effects. Contact your physician immediately. If you experience:

  • Dry mouth, which causes difficulty talking or swallowing.
  • Minimal or no urine;
  • Uncontrolled muscle movement;
  • Vomiting, severe constipation;
  • Fast heartbeats;
  • Muscle weakness
  • Tunnel vision, blurred or blurry eyes, pain in the eyes, or seeing light halos;
  • Disorientation, hallucinations,
  • Severe skin rash

The most frequent side effects of benztropine are:

  • Dry mouth;
  • Blurred vision
  • Constipation
  • Nausea.

Before you Take this Drug

Do not take the benztropine drug if you have an allergy to it.It is not approved for use by anyone younger than 18.Inform your physician if you were ever diagnosed with:

  • An increased prostate;
  • Problems with urination;
  • Glaucoma;
  • muscle problems.

Adults who are older may be less sensitive to the side effects of benztropine.There is no way to determine whether benztropine can harm an unborn child. Inform your physician if you are expecting or planning to fall pregnant.Inform your physician if you are nursing.

How to Take Benztropine?

Be sure to follow the directions printed on the prescription label. Also, go through all drug guides and instruction sheets. Sometimes, your doctor will alter the dosage.Take the dosage according to the directions.Benztropine is taken orally through the mouth.Benztropine is typically taken before bed.

Benztropine injections can be administered in a vein or in a muscle when you're unable to consume the medication by mouth.Make sure you drink plenty of water in order to keep your mouth moist while taking benztropine.Dry mouth can cause gum infections or tooth decay. Cleanse and floss your teeth on a regular basis, and see your dentist on a regular basis for dental care.Contact your physician if symptoms persist or get more severe.

It is possible that your symptoms will become worse when you stop taking the drug benztropine abruptly. Talk to your doctor prior to taking any anti-Parkinson medicines.Maintain at room temperature and free of heat, moisture, or the sun's rays.

What Happens if I Miss a Dose?

You should take your medicine as quickly as possible; however, do not take the missed dose when it's almost time to take your next dose. Take two doses in one go.

What Happens If I Overdose?

For medical emergencies, seek emergency treatment or dial toll-free the Poison Helpline at 1-800-222-1222.

An overdose could cause an increase in drowsiness or confusion. It can also cause nervousness and hallucinations. rapid heart rate, nausea, the feeling of your fingers becoming numb, dry or hot skin, and falling asleep.

What Should be Avoided?

Beware of driving and other hazardous activities until you understand how benztropine affects you. The way you react could be affected.

Do not become dehydrated or hot while exercising or in the heat of the summer. Benztropine may reduce sweating and make you more susceptible to suffering from heat exhaustion.

Interaction with Other Drugs

Discuss with your physician any other medications you take, particularly:

  • Alternative medicine for treating Parkinson's disease
  • Medications for treating the symptoms of depression, anxiety, mood disorders, or mental illness
  • Cold or allergy medication (Benadryl and other brands);
  • Medicine to treat stomach disorders, motion sickness treatment for motion sickness, stomach problems, or IBS;
  • Medication for treating the overactive bladder medicine to treat an overactive bladder
  • Bronchodilator asthma medications
