What is Amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and lansoprazole?

Amoxicillin can be described as a penicillin antibiotic. Clarithromycin is an antibiotic macrolide. The antibiotics combat the presence of bacteria in the body.Lansoprazole lowers the amount acid released by the stomach.Amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and lansoprazole are combination drugs for people suffering from Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection and stomach ulcers. Treating the H. pylori infection can help prevent future stomach ulcers.Clarithromycin, amoxicillin, and lansoprazole could be used for other purposes that are not covered in this guide.

Side effects of Amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and lansoprazole

Seek medical attention immediately when you are experiencing symptoms that indicate an allergic reaction (hives or breathing difficulties and swelling in your throat or face) or a severe reaction to your skin (fever and sore throat, eye burning, irritation, and a red or purple skin eruption with peeling and blisters).Get medical attention in the event of a serious reaction to medication that could affect various parts of your body. Symptoms may include an itch on your skin and fever, swelling of the glands, muscle pains, abnormal bruising, severe weakness, or yellowing of the eyes or skin.

Clarithromycin, amoxicillin, and lansoprazole could result in serious adverse side effects. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience:

  • Extreme stomach pain; diarrhoea that is bloody or watery;
  • Heartbeats that are fast or rapid, the chest flutters, shortness of breath, and sudden dizziness (like you're about to pass out);
  • Liver problems: upper stomach pain, itching, weight loss, and dark urine jaundice (yellowing of the eyes or skin);
  • Kidney issues: urinating more or less than normal, or urine that is bloody, swelling, weight gain, rapid
  • New or worsening symptoms of the lupus and lupus-related symptoms. Joint pain and an eruption on your cheeks or arms that worsens with the sun.

The risk of serious side effects is more common in older people.

Common side effects of amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and lansoprazole could be:

  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea;
  • Headache;
  • Vaginal discharge or itching
  • Unfavourable or unusual taste in the mouth: the taste of a mouth that is unusual or unpleasant
  • Tongues that are black tongues, or "hairy" tongues.

Warnings

Amoxicillin isn't a good choice, as is clarithromycin, as is the lansoprazole drug, if you've had an extreme allergic reaction to some antibiotics or if you've suffered from specific heart rhythm issues or liver issues caused by taking clarithromycin.Inform your doctor about the medicines you are currently taking as well as any new medications you decide to start or stop taking. Numerous drugs can interact, and certain drugs shouldn't be taken together.

Prior to use this drug

Do not take this medication if you are sensitive to amoxicillin (Amoxil), clarithromycin (Biaxin), or lansoprazole (Prevacid), or if you suffer from:

  • You have a background or a history of long QT syndrome or other heart rhythm disorders.
  • You've had problems with your liver or jaundice that were due to taking clarithromycin.
  • You are intolerant and allergic to azithromycin (Zithromax Z-Pak), erythromycin, and
  • You have experienced a severe allergic reaction to a penicillin antibiotic, such as ampicillin, Augmentin, Principen, Timentin, or Trimox, and other medications or
  • You have experienced a severe reaction to a cephalosporin antibiotic, such as cefdinir, the cefprozil antibiotic, cefuroxime, Duricef Omnicef Cefzil Keflex, Spectracef, and many more.

Certain medicines may cause undesirable or hazardous effects when taken with clarithromycin, amoxicillin, and lansoprazole. Your doctor might alter your treatment regimen in the event that you also take:

  • Cisapride;
  • Colchicine (if you also suffer from kidney or liver disease);
  • Dihydroergotamine or ergotamine;
  • Lovastatin (advicor, altoprev, mevacor) or simvastatin (zocor, simcor, vytorin, juvisync);
  • Pimozide.

Speak to your doctor if you were ever diagnosed with:

  • Liver disease;
  • Kidney disease;
  • Allergies;
  • Myasthenia gravis;
  • Osteoporosis, low bone mineral density (osteopenia),
  • An imbalance in electrolytes or metabolic disorders.

It is possible that you are more likely to experience fractured bones when you take the medicine for long periods or more than one time every day. Talk with your doctor regarding ways to maintain your bones' health.This medicine could cause harm to the unborn baby. Use effective birth control to avoid pregnancy, and inform your physician if you are pregnant.Amoxicillin may make contraceptives less efficient. Talk to your doctor about the use of non-hormonal birth control (condom diaphragm, diaphragm containing spermicide) to stop pregnancy.It is not recommended to breastfeed when taking this medicine.This medication is not authorised for use by any person younger than 18 years of age.

How to take Amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and lansoprazole?

Follow the instructions on the prescription label and also read all medication guides or instructions sheets. Follow the medication exactly as prescribed.Take clarithromycin, amoxicillin, and lansoprazole every day before eating unless your physician tells you to take a different regimen.Take each pill in its entirety and don't crush or chew on or break it.Take this medication for the prescribed amount of time, even if symptoms do not improve immediately. Inadequate doses could increase your chance of developing an infection resistant to treatment. This medication will not help treat a viral disease like the flu or the typical cold.

This medicine may affect the outcomes of certain medical tests. Be sure to inform any doctor who treats you about your use of clarithromycin, amoxicillin, and the drug lansoprazole.Keep the items at room temperature and away from heat, moisture, and light.

Details on dosage

Usual adult dose for Helicobacter pylori infection:

Amoxicillin 1000 mg, Clarithromycin 500 mg, and Lansoprazol 30 mg orally, 2 times each day
The duration of treatment The duration of therapy is 10 to 14 days.
Comment: This medicine is recommended to be taken both in the morning and evening.
Use: Treatment for patients suffering from Helicobacter pylori disease as well as duodenal ulcer disease to eliminate H. pylori

What happens if I miss the dose?

You should take the medication as quickly as you are able, but do not take your missed dosage if you are nearing the time to take the next dose. Don't have two doses at one time.

What should be avoided?

The use of antibiotics can trigger diarrhoea, which could be an indication of a new infection. If you experience diarrhoea that is swollen or bloody, consult your doctor prior to taking the anti-diarrhoea medication.

Interaction with other drugs

If you are taking any of the following medications, you should take them in separate doses:

  • Zidovudine Take amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and lansoprazole for at least 2 hours prior to or two hours after you have taken clarithromycin, amoxicillin, and lansoprazole.
  • Sucralfate (carafate) It is taken within 30 minutes of the time you have taken clarithromycin, amoxicillin, and lansoprazole.

It is sometimes not safe to take certain medicines in combination. Certain drugs may affect the blood levels of other medications you are taking, which could create side effects or render the medication less effective.Clarithromycin may cause serious heart issues. The risk is more likely if you take other medications to treat asthma, infections, heart issues, high blood pressure, depression, mental illness, cancer, malaria, or HIV.Inform your doctor about the medicines you are taking currently. A variety of medications can interact with amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and lansoprazole, specifically:

  • Antiviral medications;
  • "statin" cholesterol medication;
  • Oral diabetes medications (especially pioglitazone, nateglinide, repaglinide, and rosiglitazone);
  • A blood thinner, warfarin (coumadin, jantoven);
  • Heart or blood pressure medication—amlodipine, diltiazem, verapamil,
  • A valium-type sedative—alprazolam, midazolam, and triazolam.
