What is Afrin 4 Hour Extra Moisturizing?

Phenylephrine Phenylephrine is an anti-congestant that reduces the size of blood vessels in the nasal passages. The blood vessels that are dilated can cause the nasal passages to become congested (stuffy nasal congestion).

Afrin Four Hours Extra Moisturizing can be used to relieve sinus pressure and nasal congestion due to allergies, the commonly acquired cold, and influenza. Phenylephrine can be used to treat the congestion of the tubes that remove fluid from your ears, known as the eustachian (yoo-stay-shun) tubes. Afrin Four Hour Moisturizing Extra can be used for other purposes not covered in this medication guide.

Side Effects of Afrin 4-Hour Extra Moisturizing

Seek medical attention immediately in the event that you exhibit symptoms that are warning signs of a reaction, such as asthma, hives, or swelling of your lips, tongue, throat, or face.

Adverse Effects:

  • Extreme sneezing, a runny or nasal stuffiness, swelling, redness, or irritation on your nose, as well as other more severe nose symptoms (which may be an indication of excessive use of Afrin 4-hour Extra Moisturizing).
  • Intense burning, stinging, or irritation of your nose.
  • Intense dizziness, restless sensation, anxiousness, severe dizziness, or sleepiness.

The risk of side effects is more prevalent in older adults:

Warnings

Don't use Afrin 4-hour Extra Moisturizing if you have taken an MAO inhibitor in the last 14 days, like isocarboxazid or linezolid, blue injections, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, or tranylcypromine.

Before you take this drug

You shouldn't apply Afrin 4-Hour Extra Moisturizing for 4 hours if you suffer from an allergic reaction to it.

Do not apply Afrin 4-Hour Extra Moisturizing when you have previously used an MAO inhibitor within the last 14 days. A potentially dangerous interaction with a drug could happen. MAO inhibitors include isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene blue injection, rasagiline, phenelzine, tranylcypromine, and others.

Speak with a pharmacist or doctor to determine if it is safe to take this medication if you suffer from any other medical issues, particularly:

  • Heart disease, heart rhythm disorder.
  • Hypertension;
  • Diabetes;
  • Glaucoma;
  • An thyroid disorder;
  • An increased prostate or urinary issue.

It's not clear if Afrin 4-Hour Extra Moisturizing can harm the unborn baby. Don't use this product without seeking a doctor's advice if you are pregnant.

How to take an Afrin Four Hour Moisturizing Extra for four hours?

Follow the directions on the label or as directed by your physician. Do not use it in greater quantities or for a longer period of time than recommended. The use of cold medicine is only for a brief period until the symptoms subside.

Do not offer Afrin 4-hour Extra Moisturizing to any child who is younger than four years old. Always consult with a physician before introducing any cold or cough medicine to children. Death can occur because of the improper use of cough and cold medications by very young children. Afrin Four Hour Moisturizing is typically applied every 4 hours. Follow the instructions on the medication label. Do not take more medicine than what is stated on the label or recommended by your physician. If you take this medicine for too long, it could cause damage to the lining that lines your nose passages and cause persistent nasal congestion.

Nasal use:

  • Breathe through your nose slowly. Maintain your head in a straight position and place the rim of the bottle to one nostril. Close the other nostril by using your fingers. Breathe deeply and gently spray the medication through your nose. You can then spray the other nostril.
  • Don't breathe through your nostrils for several minutes following the application of the spray to your nose.
  • When the solution gets into your mouth, eyes, or even on the surface of your face, wash it off with water.
  • If the spray for nasal use has not been utilized for more than 24 hours, prime it by spraying 2-3 times onto the tissue.

Each time you use the spray, wipe the end of the bottle using an absorbent tissue or wash the bottle with hot water, making sure that no water falls into the medicine bottle. The cap should be kept in the bottle when it is not being used. To apply the nasal drops, lie down on your back with your head tilted to the side. Inject the appropriate amount of drops and stay there for a few minutes. Move your head in a circular motion. To stop the spread of the infection, do not use or share Afrin Four Hour Moisturizing Extra for 4 hours with any other person.Consult your doctor if symptoms don't improve after three weeks of therapy, you suffer from a fever that causes headaches or coughs, or you have the appearance of a skin condition.If you are going to need surgery, inform the surgeon in advance that you're taking Afrin 4-Hour Extra Moisturizing. It is possible that you may need to stop taking the medication for a short period of time. Place it in a cool, dry place free of heat and moisture.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Because Afrin 4-Hour Extra Moisturizing can be used whenever needed, you may not be following a dose schedule. If you're following a routine, take the dose you missed as quickly as you recall. Do not take any missed doses if you are nearing the time for the next scheduled dose. Don't use any extra medication to replace the missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

For medical emergencies, seek emergency medical attention or contact the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222. Overdose symptoms can include severe dizziness, tiredness, a slow heart rate, and falling asleep.

What should be avoided?

Avoid applying Afrin Four Hour Moisturizing Extra to your eyes. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist prior to using any other cough, cold, or allergy medication. A lot of combination medications include the ingredient pseudoephedrine. Combining certain medicines could cause you to take too much of this medication.

Interaction with other drugs

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist prior to using this medicine if you're taking any other medications that include prescription or over-the-counter medicine, vitamins, or herbal products. Certain medicines may cause undesirable or even dangerous reactions when taken together. There are not all interactions included in this guideline for medications. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor about whether it's safe to use Afrin Four Hour Moisturizing Extra when you're also taking any of these drugs:

  • Other decongestants;
  • An antidepressant
  • Medications for blood pressure.
  • Diabetes medication.
