What is Naldemedine?

Naldemedine decreases constipation caused by opioid pain medications that are used to treat severe chronic pain.

Naldemedine is intended for those who take opioid pain medication to combat chronic pain not caused by cancer.Naldemedine is also used for reasons not mentioned in this guideline.

Side effects of Naldemedine

Contact a medical professional immediately. If you are experiencing symptoms that indicate an allergic reaction, like hives, trouble breathing, or swelling of your lips, face, and throat,

Inform your doctor if you notice signs of withdrawal from opioids like fever, sweating, chills, sensations of warmth or tingling on the face or body, shaking or rapid heartbeats, feeling nervous or stressed, yawning, nasal congestion, sneezing, eye watering, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea.

Naldemedine may cause serious side effects. Stop taking naldemedine and consult your physician immediately. If you suffer from:

  • Severe diarrhoea;
  • Extreme stomach pain that does not go away (this could be a sign of serious medical issues).

Common adverse effects of naldemedine could include:

  • Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain,
  • Diarrhoea.

Warnings

It is not recommended to use naldemedine in the event of an obstruction in your stomach or intestines.

Stop taking naldemedine and contact your doctor right away if you are experiencing severe stomach pain that doesn't go away (this could lead to serious medical issues).

Inform your doctor when you experience signs of withdrawal from opioids, including sweating at night, feeling cold or hot, a feeling of being cold and tremors, quick beating heartbeats, anxiety, eyes that are watery, a runny nose, vomiting, or diarrhoea.

Before you Take this Drug

Naldemedine should not be used if you have an allergy to this substance or suffer from:

  • An obstruction in your stomach or the intestines.

Inform your doctor if you have ever suffered from:

  • A stomach or intestinal condition (including Crohn's disease, diverticulitis, or Ogilvie's syndrome);
  • A stomach ulcer
  • Liver disease.

If you're on Naldemedine while you're pregnant it is possible that your child will experience withdrawal effects from opioids. Tell your doctor whether you are expecting or if you find yourself pregnant.

This medicine can trigger opioid withdrawal symptoms in nursing infants. Don't breastfeed during the time you take naldemedine and for at least three days following the previous dose.

Naldemedine is not a drug that has been approved for use by anyone less than 18 years old.

Usual Adult Dose for Constipation (Drug-Induced:
