What is Cefadroxil?
Cefadroxil, a cephalosporin (SEF is a low-spore) antibiotic, is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. Cefadroxil can be used in other ways not mentioned in this guide.
Side effects of Cefadroxil
If you experience any of the following signs of an allergic reaction: hives, difficulty breathing or swelling to lips, face, tongue or throat - seek medical assistance immediately!
Cefadroxil may cause serious side effects. If you experience:
- Severe stomach pain; bloody or watery diarrhoea (even months after the last dose);
- Flu symptoms, including chills, body pains, and fever;
- Pale skin, easy bruising, and unusual bleeding
- A seizure;
- Fever, weakness, confusion;
- Dark-coloured urine jaundice
- Kidney problems include little or no urination and swelling of the feet or ankles. You may also feel tired or short of breath.
Some of the common side effects associated with cefadroxil include:
- Diarrhoea;
- Stomach pain;
- Vaginal itching or discharge

Before you take this drug
Cefadroxil should not be taken if you have an allergy to cefadroxil or any other cephalosporin (cefdinir, cefalexin, Keflex, Omnicef, and others).
Please inform your physician of any of the following issues:
- An allergic reaction to any medication (especially penicillin);
- Colitis is one example of an intestinal disorder.
- Kidney disease is a serious condition.
Cefadroxil liquid contains sucrose. If you have diabetes, talk to your doctor about using this form. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or nursing.
How to take cefadroxil?
Read all instructions or guides that come with your medicine and follow all instructions on the label. Follow the directions on the label. Cefadroxil can be taken both with and without food. Cefadroxil may upset your stomach if taken with food. Before measuring a dose, shake the orally suspended liquid. Use either the dosing device provided, or an alternative dose-measuring tool (not spoon).
Cefadroxil dosages are determined by weight for children. When giving this medicine, be sure to follow all instructions. Even if your symptoms improve quickly, take this medication until the entire course has expired.You can get infections resistant to medications if you skip doses. Cefadroxil does not treat a virus, such as the flu or a common cold. Cefadroxil may affect certain medical tests. Inform any doctor that you use cefadroxil. Keep the tablet and capsules away from heat, moisture, and humidity. Cefadroxil liquid should be stored in the fridge. Do not freeze. Cefadroxil is not to be frozen.
What happens if I miss the dose?
If it is almost time for your next dose, forgoing this missed one would likely suffice. Never take two doses of a medicine at the same time.
What happens if I overdose?
Contact 1-800-222-1222 immediately in case of poisoning and seek immediate medical care.
What should be avoided?
Antibiotics can cause diarrhea. This could be an indication of a new illness.Before taking antidiarrheal medicine for diarrhoea, contact a healthcare provider immediately if bloody or watery diarrhoea occurs.
Interaction with other drug
Cefadroxil can be affected by other drugs, such as prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products. Inform your doctor of all the medicines you are taking and those that you stop or start using.
