What is Zilxi Foam?

Zilxi Aerosol is a foam-type medicine containing minocycline, which is a tetracycline antibiotic.Zilxi foam can be described as a prescribed medicine that is applied to the skin of people who suffer from bumps and pimples. It is due to a condition known as rosacea.Zilxi is not suitable for use to treat skin infections.

Warnings

Zilxi foam is intended to be applied to the skin (topical usage). Zilxi is not to be used in the eyes, mouth, or vagina.It isn't known whether Zilxi foam is effective and safe when used with children.

Follow the directions on the medicine label and in the package. Be sure to inform your healthcare professionals about your medical issues, allergies, and any medications you take.

Before you take this drug

It is not recommended to take Zilxi foam if you're sensitive to minocycline or similar antibiotics like demeclocycline, doxycycline, or tetracycline.

To be sure Zilxi is safe for you, ask your doctor if you've ever suffered from:

  • Liver disease;
  • Kidney disease;
  • An increase in pressure within your skull;
  • If you're experiencing symptoms of diarrhea or diarrhea that's watery,

Inform your physician when you're pregnant. Although it is not yet known if applying minocycline to the skin can be harmful to the unborn baby, taking minocycline through the mouth in the third or second trimester of pregnancy can cause bone growth issues in the unborn child or cause permanent tooth discoloration later in life.

Breastfeeding is not advised while using Zilxi.

How to take Zilxi?

Make use of Zilxi foam as directed by your physician. Follow all instructions on your prescription label, and go through all medication guides or instructions on the label.Make sure to shake the Zilxi foam canister thoroughly before use.

Take note of and follow the instructions that are included with your medication. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor if you don't understand these directions.Zilxi foam is generally applied daily and at least an hour prior to bedtime. Apply a tiny amount of the topical foam to the areas of skin that are affected.It is important to use the medicine every day.Do not shower, bathe, or swim for a minimum of one hour after having applied Zilxi.

Maintain it at room temperature, clear of moisture and heat. Don't store this medication in an unrefrigerated refrigerator.Zilxi foam is stored in the pharmacy prior to when you receive it. It may be suggested that you keep the container in your refrigerator at home until you are able to begin applying the medication. If you are applying a new canister, wait for it to cool to room temperature prior to applying the medication. Once you have started using a container, continue to keep it at room temperature for a period of up to 90 days, and then toss it out regardless of whether there is any remaining medicine inside.

Zilxi foam is inflammable. Avoid using near a high temperature or an open flame. Avoid smoking until the drug has been completely removed from your face.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Apply the medication as fast as you can; however, do not take the dose you missed if it is close to time for the next dose. Do not take two doses at once.

What happens if I overdose?

A dose of Zilxi isn't likely to pose a risk. You should seek medical attention in an emergency or contact the Poison Helpline at 1-800-222-1222 if you have accidentally swallowed the medicine.

Avoid this

Avoid driving and other hazardous activities until you are aware of the effects this medicine has on your body. The way you react could be impaired.The use of antibiotics can trigger diarrhea, which could be an indicator of an outbreak of infection. If you are experiencing diarrhea that is bloody or watery, consult your physician prior to applying anti-diarrhea medications.

Minocycline can cause sunburn more quickly. Avoid tanning beds or sunlight. Be sure to wear protective attire and sunblock (SPF 30 or more) whenever you're outside.Beware of getting Zilxi foam into your mouth, eyes, or vagina.

Side effects of Zilxi

See a doctor immediately. If you are experiencing indications that you are experiencing an allergic reaction to Zilxi (hives, breathing difficulties, and swelling of your throat or face) or an extreme skin reaction (fever, burning eyes, sore throat, or skin pain, the skin is red or purple and blisters and peels),

Get medical attention in the event of a serious reaction to a drug that affects the body in a variety of ways. Symptoms may include the following: a skin rash or fever; swollen glands; muscle pains; extreme weakness; unusual bruising or yellowing of the eye or skin.

There is no risk of serious side effects after applying Zilxi foam to the skin. However, serious side effects may occur if the drug is absorbed into the bloodstream.

See your doctor right away. If you suffer from:

  • Extreme stomach discomfort; diarrhea that is bloody or watery (even if it's several months after the previous dose);
  • Severe dizziness;
  • Incongruity, headache, eye problems, headaches behind your eyes;
  • Swollen glands, joint pain, itching, or a feeling of not being well;
  • Discoloration of your skin, lips, eyes, nails, gums, teeth, or skin.
  • Liver issues: nausea and stomach discomfort (upper right side) itching, fatigue, the dark color of urine, stools with clay, jaundice (yellowing of the eyes or skin) or
  • Symptoms resembling lupus, such as joint or muscle discomfort, flu-like symptoms, chest pain, and a streak of skin color or rash that gets worse in the sun.

Minocycline can impact growth in children, especially when it is used for long periods of time.

Common zilxi adverse effects could be:

  • Diarrhea;

Interaction with other drugs

Discuss with your doctor your other medications, including:

  • Isotretinoin;
  • Is a blood thinner (warfarin, coumadin, jantoven);
  • Penicillin antibiotics amoxicillin, ampicillin nafcillin and oxacillin augmentin, prevpac, and others
