What is Vivarin?

Vivarin helps you feel alert when you're tired or drowsy.Vivarin is not a replacement for sleep.This medication guide does not list all possible uses for Vivarin.

Side effects of Vivarin

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of your lips, face, throat, or tongue.

If you experience:

  • Continued tiredness or sleepiness
  • Sleep problems that persist

Vivarin can cause the following side effects:

  • Feeling restless
  • Loss of appetite
  • Sleep problems (insomnia).

Before you take this drug

Vivarin should not be used by anyone under the age of 12. The medicine gum is not for anyone under 18 years of age or who has a sensitivity to the medicine.

If you have had any of the following:

  • Heart problems
  • High blood pressure
  • A stomach ulcer,
  • Liver disease.

Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or nursing.

How to take Vivarin?

Follow the instructions on the label or those prescribed by your doctor.Vivarin is usually found in each dose, which is about the same as one cup of coffee, a can of Coke, or an energy drink.

Do not use more than the amount recommended on the product label. According to the US Food and Drug Administration, you should not consume more than 400 milligrammes per day of caffeine in any form.Vivarin can be taken with or without food.Vivarin gum should not be chewed in excess of two pieces at a time. The gum should not be swallowed whole.Store away from heat and moisture at room temperature.

What happens if I miss the dose?

Vivarin can be used as needed, and you don't need to follow a schedule. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip any missed dose. Never take two doses in one go.

What happens if I overdose?

Call 1-800-222-1222 for poison help or seek immediate medical attention.

Overdose symptoms include rapid heartbeats, difficulty sleeping, and feeling nervous or irritable.

What should be avoided?

Avoid foods or drinks containing Vivarin, such as chocolate milk, coffee, tea, or cola.

Interaction with other drug

Before using Vivarin, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Vivarin may be affected by other drugs, such as prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.Inform your doctor of all medications you are currently taking as well as those you discontinue or start using.
