Generic name: silodosin [SIL-oh-DOE-sin]

What is Silodosin?

Silodosin, an alpha-blocker, is used to improve urination in men suffering from benign prostate hyperplasia (enlarged prostate).Silodosin is also used for reasons not mentioned in this guideline.

Side effects of Silodosin

Silodosin could cause dizziness and fainting, particularly when you are first beginning to take it. You might feel dizzy the first time you get up or stand up too quickly from lying, sitting, or lying down.

Common adverse effects of silodosin could be:

  • Dizziness, feeling like you might pass out;
  • Headache;
  • Diarrhea;
  • Abnormal ejaculation;
  • Stuffy nose, sinus pain

Inform your doctor about your other medications. Certain medications should not be used in conjunction with silodosin.

Prior to use this drug

It is not recommended to take silodosin. If you are allergic to silodosin or are suffering from:

  • Serious liver condition severe liver disease
  • Serious kidney disease.

Certain drugs shouldn't be used in conjunction with silodosin. Your treatment regimen may be altered depending on whether you also take:

  • Nefazodone;
  • An antibiotic—clarithromycin, telithromycin;
  • Antifungal medicine: itraconazole, ketoconazole, posaconazole, and voriconazole; or
  • Antiviral medication for HIV and hepatitis C: boceprevir and cobicistat, dasabuvir, elvitegravir and indinavir, lopinavir/ritonavir, paritaprevir, saquinavir, ombitasvir, and telaprevir. Tipranavir is also a

Inform your doctor if you were ever diagnosed with:

  • Lower blood pressure;
  • Renal disease (or if you're taking dialysis);
  • Heart disease;
  • Prostate cancer;
  • A condition that requires you to be prescribed a diuretic "water pill";
  • If you're on a-diet that is low in salt,

Silodosin can affect your pupils. If you require eye surgery, inform the surgeon about the use of silodosin, even if it is not necessary to use it.

Silodosin should not be used by women. Furthermore, the effects of this medicine on lactation or pregnancy are not known.It is not recommended for anyone less than 18 years of age to use it.

How to take silodosin?

Your doctor might examine you for prostate-specific antigen (PSA) to determine if you have prostate cancer before taking silodosin.Follow all the instructions on the prescription label and review all medication guides and instructions. Your doctor may change the dosage. Follow the medication precisely as directed.Every day, take food.

If you can't take a capsule in its entirety, take it out and mix the medication with applesauce. Take the mixture in a single swallow without chewing.

Your blood pressure can become too low after a long-term illness. Contact your doctor if you are suffering from nausea or diarrhea.Your blood pressure needs to be checked regularly.Keep at room temperature, free of heat, moisture, and light.

Details on dosage

Usual Adult Dose for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia:

8 mg taken orally every day with at least one meal
Comments: Patients with difficulties swallowing might take the capsule apart and spread the powder onto an applesauce spoonful. The applesauce shouldn't be hot, and it should have enough softness to swallow within 5 minutes with no chewing, followed by 8 ounces of cool water.

What happens if I miss the dose?

You should take the medication as quickly as you are able, but avoid your missed dosage if you are close to the time of the next dose. Don't take two doses at a time.

What should be avoided?

Avoid driving or engaging in hazardous activities until you understand how silodosin affects your body. The way you react could be impaired.

Interaction with other drugs

Discuss with your doctor your current medications. Certain medications can increase your risk of developing very low blood pressure when you take silodosin. This includes:

  • Medicines similar to silodosin (alfuzosin, doxazosin, prazosin, tamsulosin, or terazosin);
  • Blood pressure, heart-related medication,
  • Sildenafil (viagra) and other erectile dysfunction
