It is believed that the Sanctura XR brand name has been taken off the market within the U.S. If there are generic versions of this item that were approved by the FDA, there may be similar products that are available in generic form.

What is Sanctura XR?

Sanctura XR eases the spasms in the bladder.

Sanctura XR is used to treat the overactive bladder and signs of urine incontinence, frequency, and urgency.Sanctura XR can be used for other purposes not mentioned in this medication guide.

Side effects of Sanctura XR

See a doctor immediately. If you notice any of the following symptoms, warning signs of reactions to an allergen, such as hives: difficulty breathing or swelling of your lips, face, and tongue,

Stop taking Sanctura XR and call your doctor right away in the event of an adverse reaction that is serious, like:

  • Serious stomach pain or constipation;
  • Serious constipation;
  • The frequency of urination is lower than normal, or even not at all.
  • Confusion, hallucinations.

Less severe side effects can be:

  • Dry throat or throat
  • Headache;
  • Mild constipation, but not severe;
  • Upset stomach, gas;
  • Dizziness, drowsiness,
  • Dry eyes.

Warnings

It is best not to use Sanctura XR if you are allergic to it,  if you suffer from untreated, uncontrolled, or ineffective wide-angle glaucoma, a blockage of your digestive tract, or if you are incapable of urinating.Use Sanctura XR on an empty stomach at least one hour prior to a meal.

Avoid drinking alcohol 2 hours prior to or after taking Sanctura XR. Drinking alcohol may increase the effects of trospium.

The medication can cause blurred vision and a decrease in your ability to think or react. Be aware of this if you are driving or doing any other activity in which you need to stay conscious and capable of seeing clearly.

Beware of becoming dehydrated or overheated when exercising or in hot conditions. Sanctura XR can decrease sweating and make it easier to suffer from a heart attack. Get plenty of fluids when you're taking this medicine.

Before taking Sanctura XR, inform your doctor whether you are a regular user of other medications that cause you to be sleepy (such as allergy or cold medicines, sedatives and prescription painkillers, sleeping medications, muscle relaxers, as well as medicines for depression, seizures, and anxiety). These medications can contribute to the sleepiness that is caused by them.

Prior to use this drug

You shouldn't make use of Sanctura XR if you are allergic to it or are suffering from

  • Untreated or controlled the narrow-angle glaucoma
  • A blockage in your digestive system;
  • If you're unable to urinate,

It isn't known if trospium gets into breast milk or whether it is harmful to the baby who is nursing. Do not take this medicine without consulting your physician, whether you are breastfeeding the baby.Senior citizens are more likely to experience negative side effects as a result of this medication.

How to take Sanctura XR?

Follow the exact dosage as recommended by your physician. Do not take larger quantities, smaller amounts, or for longer than is recommended. Follow the instructions on the prescription label.

Use Sanctura XR on an empty stomach at least one hour prior to eating. Extended-release medication (Sanctura XR) is recommended to be taken once in the morning and at least one hour prior to a meal.

Don't crush, chew, break, open, or crack the capsule with extended release. Take it in whole. Opening or breaking the pill can cause too much of the drug to release simultaneously.Store it somewhere at room temp, clear from moisture and heat.

What happens if I miss the dose?

The missed dose should be taken 1 hour prior to eating your meal. Do not take any missed doses if you are nearing the time for your next appointment. Don't take any extra medication to make up for the missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

Get medical attention in an emergency or contact the poison help line at 1-800-222-1222.The symptoms of an overdose can include severe manifestations of certain adverse reactions, as described in this medication guide.

What should be avoided?

This medication could cause blurred vision and a decrease in your ability to think or react. Be aware of this if you are driving or engaging in any activity in which you need to stay attentive and be able to clearly see.

Do not drink alcohol for 2 hours prior to or following the time you take Sanctura XR. Alcohol consumption can cause an increase in the effects of trospium in certain ways.

Avoid getting dehydrated or too hot during workouts and in hot temperatures. Sanctura XR can decrease sweating and make it more likely for you to suffer from heat stroke. Take plenty of water when you're taking this medicine.

Interaction with other drugs

Before taking Sanctura XR, inform your doctor that you frequently take other medications that cause you to be sleepy (such as allergy or cold medicines, sedatives and opioid pain medication, sleeping medications, muscle relaxers, and medications for depression, seizures, and anxiety). They may contribute to the sleepiness that this medication causes.

Discuss with your doctor all the other medications you take, particularly:

  • Atropine (Atreza, Sal-Tropine, and more);
  • Belladonna (Donnatal and others);
  • Benztropine (Cogentin);
  • Dimenhydrinate (Dramamine);
  • Metformin (Actoplus Met, Avandamet, Glucophage, Glucovance, Janumet, Kombiglyze, Metaglip, prandimet);
  • Morphine (Kadian, MS Contin, Oramorph);
  • Procainamide (procanbid, pronestyl);
  • Tenofovir (Viread);
  • Vancomycin (Vancocin);
  • Bronchodilators, such as the ipratropium (atrovent) and the tiotropium (spiriva);
  • Urinary or bladder medications like darifenacin (Enablex) or flavoxate (Urispas), oxybutynin (Ditropan, Oxytrol), tolterodine (Detrol), and the drug solifenacin (Vesicare);
  • Inflammatory bowel medications like dicyclomine (Bentyl), hyoscyamine (Hyomax), or propantheline (Pro Banthine) as well as
  • Medication for ulcers, like glycopyrrolate (Robinul) or mepenzolate (Cantil).

This list isn't exhaustive, and other medications may interfere when used in conjunction with Sanctura XR. Discuss with your doctor the medications you are taking. This includes prescription, over-the-counter or vitamin-based herbal remedies. Do not begin an entirely new medication without consulting your physician.
