What is Robitussin Nighttime Cough DM?

Dextromethorphan works as a cough suppressant. It works by affecting the signals that are sent to the brain. Doxylamine reduces the effects that histamine has on the body. Histamine can cause symptoms such as sneezing, itching, and watery eyes. Robitussin Cough at Night DM treats allergies, colds, flu, or a runny nose. The Robitussin Nighttime Cough Dm will not treat a persistent cough caused by smoking or asthma. This medication guide does not list all possible uses for Robitussin Nighttime Cough.

Side effects of Robitussin Nighttime Cough DM

If you experience any of the following signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction: difficulty breathing, hives or swelling to lips, face, tongue or throat - seek medical assistance immediately!

There are serious side effects that can occur with Robitussin for nighttime cough DM. Call your doctor immediately if:

  • Severe dizziness or anxiety;
  • A feeling of lightheadedness, as if you could pass out.
  • Little or no urinating is acceptable.
  • Liver problems: nausea; upper stomach pain; itching and fatigue; loss of appetite. Dark urine and clay-colored stools. Jaundice.

Robitussin nighttime cough dm side effects may include:

  • Drowsiness, dizziness;
  • Nervousness;
  • Sleep problems (insomnia);
  • Feeling restless or excited, especially in children

Warnings

Use Robitussin for nighttime cough DM only if you've taken an MAO inhibitor within the last 14 days. Examples include isocarboxazid (linezolid), phenelzine (phenelzine injection), rasagiline (selegiline), or tranylcypromine. This medication should not be given to children younger than four years of age. Ask a doctor first before giving cough or cold medication to your child. Children as young as 4 years old can die from the misuse of cough and cold medicines. Antihistamines should not be used to put a child to sleep.

Before you take this drug

This medicine should not be used if you have an allergy to dextromethorphan or doxylamine. Use Robitussin Nighttime DM only if you've used MAO inhibitors in the last 14 days. A dangerous medication interaction may occur. MAO inhibitors are isocarboxazid (linezolid), phenelzine (rasagiline), selegiline (selegiline injection), methylene blue injection, and others. This medication should not be given to children younger than four years of age. Ask a doctor first before giving cough or cold medication to your child. Children as young as 4 years old can die from the misuse of cough medicines.

Antihistamines should not be used to put a child to sleep.

Tell your doctor if:

  • Heart disease, high blood pressure
  • A thyroid disorder
  • A blockage of your digestive tract, such as the stomach or intestines;
  • Liver or kidney disease
  • Diabetes;
  • If you have a cough that is mucus-related or is caused by chronic lung disease, then it's a cough with mucus.
  • If you have a bladder obstruction or any other problems with urination, then this is the problem for you.
  • If you are taking potassium (cytra epiklor k-lyte k-phos kaon klor con polycitra urocit k), do not exceed recommended daily dosage.

Robitussin nighttime cough DM is not known to harm an unborn child. Consult your doctor before taking this medication if you're pregnant. Dextromethorphan or doxylamine can pass through breast milk, causing harm to a nursing infant. Antihistamines can also reduce breast milk production. Consult your doctor before taking this medication if you're breastfeeding. Phenylalanine can be found in cough and cold medicines that are artificially sweetened. Check the label of your medication to determine if it contains phenylalanine if you have phenylketonuria.

How to take Robitussin Nighttime Cough DM?

Do not exceed the recommended dosage or duration. Use the recommended dose or duration. Do not exceed it. Cold or cough medicine is typically taken for only a few days until symptoms disappear. Use the provided dosing syringe or a dose-measuring cup or spoon to measure liquid medicines. Consult with your pharmacist if you do not possess an accurate measuring device for administering doses. If your symptoms don't improve within 7 days, call your doctor. Tell your doctor or surgeon if you've taken Robitussin Nighttime Cough DM in the last few days if you are going to need surgery or medical testing. Store at room temperature away from moisture or heat, at an ideal room temperature setting. What happens if I miss the dose?

You may not have a schedule for Robitussin Nighttime Cramp DM, as it is taken when needed. Use the missed dose immediately if you're on a schedule.If the next scheduled dose is fast approaching, forget the one you missed and continue with your schedule as scheduled.You should not take extra medicine to compensate for a missed dose.

What should be avoided?

Alcohol can enhance certain side effects from dextromethorphan or doxylamine. Before using any other cold or cough medicine, allergy medication, or sleep medication, consult your doctor or pharmacist. Dextromethorphan and doxylamine are found in many combination medicines. You can get too much Robitussin nighttime cough DM if you take certain products together. You may experience blurred vision, impaired thinking, or reactions. Do not drive or operate machinery until you have determined how Robitussin nighttime cough DM affects you.

Interaction with other drug

Before taking this medication, consult with a healthcare provider or pharmacist about all other medications (e.g. vitamins or herbal remedies) you are currently using as interactions may cause unwanted or dangerous outcomes; unfortunately this medication guide cannot list them all. This medicine can have adverse effects if taken with drugs that cause sleepiness or reduce breathing.
