What is Ribociclib?
Ribociclib can be used to treat women with hormone-related breast cancer. Ribociclib should only be used if your cancer test is negative for the human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 protein. The HER2 protein may speed up the growth of cancerous cells.Ribociclib can be used if cancer has spread or progressed after treatment.Ribociclib can be given with other cancer medicines such as Letrozole( Femara), Fulvestrant, or Faslodex.Ribociclib can be used in other ways not mentioned in this guide.
Side effects of Ribociclib
If you experience symptoms of an allergic reaction, such as hives, difficulty breathing, swelling on your face or in your throat, or a severe reaction to the skin (fever or sore throat with burning eyes, skin pain or blisters, or a red or purple rash that is blistering or peeling), seek emergency medical attention.If you experience a severe drug reaction, seek medical attention. Symptoms include skin rash or hives, swollen or enlarged glands, severe muscle pain, weakness, and unusual bruises.
Ribociclib can cause serious side effects. If you experience:
- You may experience rapid or pounding pulses, fluttering of the chest, shortness of breath, and sudden dizziness.
- Low white blood cell count—fevers, sores on the lips, throats, and skins; cough
- Wheezing or feeling short of breath even when resting are all signs of lung inflammation.
- Liver problems: loss of appetite, upper abdominal pain, fatigue, easy bruising, dark urine, jaundice
If you experience certain side effects, your cancer treatment may be delayed or discontinued permanently.
Ribociclib can cause the following side effects:
- Low white blood cell infections
- Cough;
- Nausea, vomiting;
- Diarrhea, constipation;
- Feeling tired
- Rash;
- Headache
- Hair loss.

Ribociclib may cause serious side effects on your liver, heart, or lungs. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience chest pain, rapid or pounding pulses, difficulty breathing, coughing (with or without mucus), sudden dizziness, upper right stomach pain, loss of appetite, unusual bleeding, bruising, or dark urine.While taking ribociclib, you will require frequent medical testing. These tests may delay your cancer treatment. If you experience symptoms of infection, such as a fever or chills, tell your doctor.
Before you take this drug
If you have an allergy to ribociclib, you should avoid using it. You also shouldn't use ribociclib when you take Tamoxifen.
You will be tested by your doctor to ensure that you are not suffering from any conditions that would make it unsafe for you to use ribociclib.
Inform your doctor of any of the following issues:
- Slow heartbeats
- Heart disease heart attack
- Long QT syndrome;
- An electrolyte imbalance is a result of low calcium, magnesium, potassium, or phosphorus levels in the blood.
- Liver disease
- Kidney disease
- Signs of infection (fever and chills)
Menopause is a condition that you should tell your doctor if you are experiencing.Before starting the treatment, you may need to take a pregnancy test.Ribociclib can harm an unborn child. This drug is not recommended for pregnant women. Use birth control during treatment with ribociclib and for 3 weeks following your last dose.This medicine can affect men's fertility (the ability to have children). Discuss this matter with your physician if any concerns exist. While taking this medication and for 3 weeks following your last dose, you should not breastfeed.
How to take Ribociclib?
Read and follow all instructions or guides provided with your medication. Follow the directions on the label.Ribociclib treatment is 28 days long. The first 21 days are taken with the medication, then 7 days without it. Your doctor will decide how long you should be treated with ribociclib.Do not chew or crush the tablet.Take your medicine every morning at the same time, with or without breakfast.Wait until the following day to take the next dose if you vomit immediately after taking your medicine.Avoid using a pill that is broken or damaged.It is possible that you will need to undergo frequent medical tests in order to ensure that ribociclib does not cause harmful side effects. The results may delay your cancer treatment.Store ribociclib at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and moisture in its original container.
Details on dosage
Adult dose for breast cancer:
Continue until disease progression occurs or unacceptable toxicity occurs.
Comments:
Refer to the product information of the manufacturer for recommendations on the dosage and administration of co-administered aromatase inhibitors (e.g., letrozole).
When given in conjunction with this medication, the recommended dosage of fulvestrant for each day is 500mg. This dose should be administered on Days 1, 15, 29, and then once a month thereafter. Please refer to the complete prescribing information for fulvestrants.
According to current clinical standards, women who are pre/perimenopausal and taking this drug in combination with an aromatase inhibitor or fulvestrant must also be given a luteinizing-hormone-releasing-hormone (LHRH-) agonist.
Uses:
Combining an aromatase-inhibitor with a hormone-based treatment for postmenopausal patients with advanced or metastatic cancer that is hormone receptor (HR), human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2), and HER2 negative
Combining fulvestrant with an endocrine-based treatment for postmenopausal patients with metastatic or advanced breast cancer that is HER2-negative and HR-positive
What happens if I miss the dose?
Do not take the missed dose. Continue to take your daily dose and your regular next dose. Never take two doses on the same day.
What happens if I overdose?
Call 1-800-222-1222 for poison help or seek immediate medical attention.
What should be avoided?
Grapefruit can interact with ribociclib, causing unwanted side effects. Avoid grapefruit products.St. John's Wort John's Wort while taking ribociclib.
Interaction with other drug
It is sometimes not safe to take certain medications together. Some drugs may affect the blood levels of drugs that you are taking, which can increase side effects and make them less effective.Ribociclib may cause serious heart problems if taken with other medications for asthma, high blood pressure, depression, mental illness, or cancer.Several drugs can interact with ribociclib.
