What is Namenda XR?

Namenda XR can reduce the action of brain chemicals, which may cause symptoms of Alzheimer's disease.

Namenda XR is used for the treatment of mild to extreme Alzheimer's disease, which is moderate to severe and of the Alzheimer's kind.Namenda XR can also be used to treat conditions not mentioned in this medication guide.

Side effects of Namenda XR

Contact a medical professional immediately. If you are experiencing warning signs of an allergic reaction, such as symptoms of hives, breathing difficulties, and swelling of your lips, face, and tongue,

Namenda XR may cause serious side effects. Get in touch with your doctor right away if you suffer from:

  • A severe headache, blurred vision, or the pounding of your neck or ear
  • Seizure (convulsions);
  • Strange shifts in behavior or mood.

Common negative effects of NamendaXR could include:

  • Diarrhea;
  • Dizziness;

Before you take this drug

It is not recommended to take Namenda XR if you are sensitive to it.

How to Take Namenda XR?

Follow all the instructions on the prescription label. Your doctor may change the dosage to ensure you are getting the best outcomes. Be sure to not take this medication in smaller or larger doses or for longer periods than the recommended time.Namenda XR may be used either with or without food.Don't crush, chew, break, open, or crush the extended-release capsule. Take it in whole.

To help you swallow, take the capsule out of the extended-release container and mix the medication into the applesauce with a spoonful. Take it in right away, without chewing. Don't save the mix to use later on.

Measure the amount of liquid medicine (oral solution) using the dosing syringe supplied or using an appropriate dose-measuring spoon or medicine cup. If you don't own an instrument for measuring doses, you can ask your pharmacist for one.Don't mix your oral solution with other liquids.Cleanse the empty syringe with clean water and let it dry completely after each use.

Make use of Namenda XR frequently to reap the maximum benefits. Refill your prescription prior to the expiration date of medication.Your doctor must monitor your progress while you're using Namenda XR.

Keep the Namenda XR at a cool, dry temperature, away from heat and moisture. Make sure the bottle is securely sealed by using the cap supplied. Don't store the bottle without the syringe used for orals in it.

What happens If I Miss a dose?

Do the missed dose as quickly as you can remember. Do not miss any doses if you're nearing the date for your next dosage. Do not take any additional medicine to make up for the missed dose.

If you don't remember doses or don't remember to take your medication for a number of days, you should call your doctor before taking the same medication.

What should be avoided?

Namenda XR could cause adverse reactions that can cause a decline in your thinking or reactions. Be cautious if you drive or do any other activity that requires you to be alert as well as awake.

Interaction with other drugs

Discuss with your physician your current medications and all the ones you are about to start or stop using, in particular:

  • Amantadine;
  • Zonisamide;
  • Cough medicine that has the ingredient dextromethorphan (Delsym, Robitussin Maximum Strength, Vicks 44, and others);
  • Medications to make urine alkaline, such as sodium bicarbonate in the urine, potassium citrate (K-Lyte Urocit-K), salt citrate along with citric acid (Bicitra, Oracit), or sodium citrate and potassium (Citrolith, Polycitra).
  • Medications to treat the condition of glaucoma or pressure increase within the eyes: acetazolamide and methazolamide.

This list is not comprehensive. Other medications can interfere with memantine. This includes medications that are prescribed and available over the counter, vitamins, and herbal products. The interactions of memantine aren't all included in this guideline for medication.
