What is Mixed grass pollens allergen extract?

The mixed grass pollen allergen is derived from pollen that may cause seasonal allergies, such as hay fever.

The mixed grass pollen extract helps your body build immunity against certain pollen, which can trigger allergies such as itching and watery eyes. Mixed grass pollen allergy extract can be used by adults and children up to the age of 65.

The symptoms of allergy will not be relieved immediately by this medicine.

Side effects of Mixed grass pollens allergen extract

Signs of an Allergic Reaction

  • Dizziness, or the feeling that you could pass out;
  • Rapid heart rate

  • Stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea;
  • Hives, itching, and flushing are all symptoms of a hive.
  • Chest tightness; difficulty breathing
  • Swelling of the face, lips, or throat.

Do not take the medication again if you have had an allergic reaction after stopping taking mixed grass allergen extract.

Mixed grass pollen allergen extract may cause serious side effects. If you experience:

  • Severe mouth or throat irritation
  • Breathing problems
  • Chest pains, difficulty swallowing, a choking sensation

Some of the common side effects of mixed grass allergen extracts include:

  • Pain, swelling, or itching in your mouth or on your tongue
  • Throat irritation;
  • Cough, sore tongue;
  • Itching of the ears

Warnings

If you suffer from uncontrolled asthma, have had an allergic reaction in the past to pollen extracts or medicine, or have ever experienced an allergic reaction affecting your esophagus, you should avoid using mixed grass pollen allergy extract.

If you suffer from certain conditions, such as heart disease or high blood pressure, then it is possible that this extract will not work for you. You may also not be able to use this medicine if you are taking certain medications.

A severe reaction to mixed grass pollen allergen extract is possible. You will be closely monitored by your doctor after the first dosage to ensure you don't have an allergic reaction.

You may be prescribed epinephrine to carry with you at all times in the event of an allergic reaction.

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic response, stop taking this medication and seek emergency medical attention.

Before you take this drug

If you've ever experienced an allergic reaction when using similar pollen extracts, or you:

  • Asthma that is uncontrolled or severe;
  • A history of an allergic reaction that caused stomach pain or difficulty swallowing.

Tell your doctor about any of the following to ensure that you are safe using mixed grass allergen extract.

  • Breathing problems
  • Heart disease
  • Uncontrolled high blood tension
  • You may have mouth sores, swelling of the gums, or any other irritation in your mouth.
  • If you are taking an antidepressant or migraine headache medication,
  • If you are taking medicine for heart disease, high blood pressure, or prostate disorders,.

FDA pregnancy category B. It is unlikely that the mixed grass pollen extract will harm an unborn child. Inform your doctor of any pregnancy or plans to get pregnant while undergoing treatment.

There is no way to know if mixed grass pollen extract allergen passes through breast milk or if a baby nursing on it would be harmed. You should tell your doctor that you're breastfeeding a child.

A child under 10 should not receive an allergen extract of mixed grass pollens.

The use of this medicine in patients older than 65 years is prohibited.

How to take Mixed grass pollens allergen extract?

You may need to undergo an allergy test, either a skin or blood test. This will determine if you have an allergic reaction to specific grass pollens contained in the mixed pollen extract.

Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended on the label. Take this medication only as prescribed. Do not exceed the recommended dosage or take it for a longer period of time.

It is possible that your doctor will want you to receive the first dose in a clinic. After taking the first dose of this medicine, you should be closely monitored for 30 minutes to ensure that there is no allergic reaction.

Mixed Grass Pollens Allergen Extract is a sublingual tablet that dissolves beneath your tongue. This tablet should not be chewed or swallowed whole.

Take the sublingual tablets:

  • The blister package should be kept until you're ready to use it. Peel back the foil and open the blister pack.
  • Remove the tablet with dry hands and put it in your mouth.
  • Sublingual Tablets: Place them under the tongue and let them dissolve.
  • For at least one minute, do not swallow. Do not eat or drink anything for at least 5 minutes.

Wash your hands after handling the sublingual tablet.

A child using mixed grass pollen allergen extract should be supervised by an adult while taking this medicine.

Mixed grass pollen allergen extract is usually taken once daily throughout the allergy season. For best results, start taking this medicine at least 4 months before the start of allergy season.

In some cases, you may need to take mixed grass pollen allergen extract every day all year for up to 3 years. Follow your doctor's dosing instructions very carefully.

Your doctor may also prescribe epinephrine (Epi-Pen) to keep with you in case you ever have an allergic reaction to a mixed grass pollen allergen extract.

If you need oral surgery or dental work, or if you have a mouth injury or infection, you may need to stop using this medicine until your mouth heals. Tell your doctor if the sublingual tablets cause any mouth irritation.

Store tablets in the blister pack at room temperature, away from moisture and heat.

Details on dosage

Usual Adult Dose for Allergic Rhinitis:

Sublingually take 300 IR (index of reactivity) once daily.

Comments:
Starting four months before each grass pollen season begins and continuing treatment throughout the season can help ensure relief for adults 18-65 years of age.The risk of mixed grass allergens may be increased when treatment is initiated during the grass pollen season.

Use: Treatment of grass pollen-induced allergic rhinitis with or without conjunctivitis confirmed by a positive skin test or in vitro testing for pollen-specific IgE antibodies for any of the following five grass species: Sweet Vernal (Anthoxanthum odoratum L), Orchard (Dactylis glomerata L), Perennial Rye (Lolium perenne L), Timothy (Phleum pratense L), and Kentucky BlueGrass (Poa pratensis L).

Usual Pediatric Dose for Allergic Rhinitis:

IInitial Dose: 100 Index of Reactivity units sublingually on Day 1, then 200 on Day 2 before increasing to 300 daily starting Day 3 until your symptoms improve.

 

Comments:

for sublingual use only and used exclusively with children 10-17 years of age under adult supervision. It should be started four months in advance of each grass pollen season to maximize efficacy during that season and continue treatment through its entirety.

What happens if I miss the dose?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember; if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, do not double up on additional medicine to make up for what was missed. Do not attempt to compensate by taking additional doses than needed.

Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222.

What should be avoided?

Ask your doctor before starting any new medicine or treatment, including allergy shots.

Interaction with other drug

Other drugs may interact with mixed grass pollen allergen extract, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products. Inform each of your health care providers of all medications you currently take as well as any new or discontinued ones.
