What is Miniprin?

Salicylates (pronounced sa-LISI-il-ate), also known as Miniprin, are used for pain relief and to reduce inflammation or fever. Miniprin can be used as a treatment or prevention for heart attacks, strokes, and angina. Only a physician should prescribe this medicine for the treatment of these conditions. This medication guide does not list all possible uses of Miniprin.

Side effects of Miniprin

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergy reaction, seek immediate medical attention: difficulty breathing, hives, swelling in your lips, face, throat, or tongue.

Miniprin may cause serious side effects. Miniprin should be stopped immediately, and you need to call your doctor if:

  • Ringing in the ears, confusion (hallucinations), rapid breathing, and seizures.
  • Severe nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain;
  • Bloody or tarry stool; vomiting blood or vomit that looks like coffee ground;
  • Fever lasting more than three days
  • Swelling or pain lasting more than 10 days.

Miniprin can cause the following side effects:

  • Upset stomach, heartburn;
  • Drowsiness;
  • Mild headache

Warnings

Miniprin is a drug that can lead to Reye’s syndrome, which in some cases may be fatal.

Before you take this drug

Miniprin can be used to treat a child with influenza symptoms or chickenpox. This may cause Reye’s syndrome.

Miniprin should not be used if:

  • Recent history of bleeding in the stomach or intestines;
  • A bleeding disorder, such as hemophilia.
  • If you've ever experienced an allergic reaction or asthma attack after taking Miniprin (or an NSAID),.

If you've ever:

  • Asthma or seasonal allergies
  • Stomach ulcers;
  • Liver Disease
  • Kidney disease
  • A bleeding or blood clotting disorder;
  • Gout;
  • Heart diseases or congestive cardiac failure.

Miniprin taken during pregnancy can cause bleeding for the mother and/or baby. Inform your doctor of any plans to get pregnant. Miniprin should not be used while breastfeeding.

How to take Miniprin?

Follow the instructions on the packaging or those prescribed by your physician.Follow the directions provided on the label of Miniprin when giving it to children.If Miniprin causes stomach upset, take it with food.The chewable tablet must be chewed before it can be swallowed.Do not crush, chew, break, or open an enteric-coated or delayed/extended-release pill. It is best to swallow it whole.Inform your doctor of any planned surgeries.Keep away from heat and moisture. Store at room temperature.Miniprin should not be used if the medicine container has a strong vinegar smell. It is possible that the medicine has lost its effectiveness.

What happens if I miss the dose?

When needed, Miniprin should be used. You can skip missed doses if you have a schedule. Never use more than one dose at a time.

What happens if I overdose?

Dial 1-800-222-1222 immediately in case of poison ingestion and get immediate medical assistance.An overdose can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, hearing or vision problems, rapid or slow breathing, or confusion.

What should be avoided?

Avoid alcohol. Avoid alcohol.Miniprin is used to treat strokes and heart attacks. Ibuprofen may reduce the effectiveness of this medication in protecting blood vessels and your heart. Your doctor can tell you how often to take your medication.They may contain ingredients similar to Miniprin These medicines may have ingredients that are similar to Miniprin, such as magnesium salicylate, ibuprofen, ketoprofen, or naproxen.

Interaction with other drug

Before using Miniprin, ask your doctor if you are taking an antidepressant. Certain antidepressants may make you bruise easily or bleed more readily.

Consult your doctor before taking Miniprin along with other drugs, particularly:

  • A blood thinner, such as warfarin (coumadin), Jantoven, or any other drug used to stop blood clots.
  • Other salicylate medications, including Nuprin Backache Caplet (Kaopectate), KneeRelief (Pamprin Cramp Formula), Pepto-Bismol Tricosal Trilisate and others may provide some relief as well.
