Mepsevii

Generic name: vestronidase alfa [ves-TRON-i-dase-AL-fa]
Drug class: Lysosomal enzymes

What is Mepsevii?

Mepsevii is a supplement that contains a natural enzyme found in people who are healthy. A genetic disorder can cause some people to lack this enzyme. The medicine replaces the missing enzyme. Mepsevii is used to alleviate some of the symptoms associated with mucopolysaccharidosis VII (pronounced MYOO-koe-pol-ee-SAK-a-rye-DOE-sis Seven), commonly referred to as Sly syndrome. MPS VII is a metabolic disorder where the body is lacking the enzymes required to break down certain natural substances. The substances that build up can cause enlarged organs and abnormal bone structures, as well as breathing or heart problems. They may also lead to changes in facial appearance, mental or physical disabilities, or even vision loss. Mepsevii can improve the walking abilities of people who have this condition. This medication does not cure MPS VII. Mepsevii can be used in other ways not mentioned in the medication guide.
