M-Dryl

What is M-Dryl?

M-Dryl, an antihistamine, is prescribed to treat symptoms such as sneezing and runny or watery eyes. It is also used for hives, skin irritation, itchiness, and cold or allergy symptoms. M-Dryl can also be used to treat motion sickness and induce sleep. It is also prescribed to relieve certain symptoms associated with Parkinson’s disease. The use of this sleep medicine is prohibited in children under 12 years. You can buy diphenhydramine from many different brands. This leaflet does not list all the available brands. M-Dryl can be used in other ways not mentioned in the medication guide.

Side effects of M-Dryl

If you experience any of the following signs and symptoms of an allergy reaction: difficulty breathing, hives or any swelling on lips, face throat or tongue requiring medical intervention immediately: difficulty in taking deep breaths or swallowing and difficulty with oral breathing and swallowing or lip swelling etc

M-Dryl can cause severe side effects. If you experience:

  • Severe sleepiness
  • Urination that is painful or difficult

In older adults, side effects like dryness of the mouth and constipation may occur more frequently.

M-Dryl side effects may include:

  • Drowsiness;
  • Dry eyes and blurred vision
  • Dry mouth, throat, or nose;
  • Reduced urination
  • Constipation;
  • Feeling restless (especially among children) or excited
  • After nighttime usage, you may feel drowsy or have a "hangover."

Warnings

M-Dryl should be taken exactly as prescribed. Too much M-Dryl may cause serious heart conditions, seizures, coma, or even death. This medicine should not be used to induce sleep in a child younger than 12.

Before you take this drug

If you have an allergy to M-Dryl, then it is best not to use M-Dryl.

If you've ever:

  • Urination or prostate problems;
  • Asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), or another breathing disorder
  • Glaucoma;
  • A thyroid condition.

Before using M-Dryl, consult your doctor if you're pregnant or nursing. It may reduce breast milk production.

How to take M-Dryl?

Follow the directions on the bottle or those prescribed by your physician. M-Dryl should only be used for a short time until symptoms are gone. Too much M-Dryl may cause serious heart issues, seizures, coma, or even death. Follow the directions provided on the label when giving M-Dryl as directed to children. Never use this medicine to put a young child to sleep. Take M-Dryl for motion sickness 30 minutes prior to a motion-sickness-causing situation (such as an airplane flight, boat trip, or amusement park ride). Take this medication with your meals and before bed. Take M-Dryl 30 minutes prior to bedtime as a sleep medication. The chewable tablet must be chewed before it can be swallowed. Measuring liquid medication is important. Dosing devices are available, but not spoons. Only remove an oral disintegrating tablet when you're ready to use it. Do not chew while the tablet dissolves; rather, swallow multiple times until all the tablet has disintegrated completely.

If you experience a persistent condition that is not improving after taking M-Dryl, call your doctor. Use M-Dryl for no longer than two weeks for sleep disorders or seven days for cold and allergy symptoms. M-Dryl may affect allergy skin tests. Inform any physician who treats you about your M-Dryl use. Keep away from heat and moisture. Store at room temperature.

What happens if I miss the dose?

M-Dryl can be used as needed, and you don't need to follow a schedule. If it is almost time to take your next dose, skip the missed dose. Never take two doses in one go.

What happens if I overdose?

Call Poison Help at 1-800-222-1222 or seek emergency medical care. A diphenhydramine overdose can be deadly. An overdose may manifest with symptoms including nausea, confusion and drowsiness.. Other signs can be ringing ears, dry mouths, eyes, and lips, rapid heartbeats, hallucinations, or seizures.

What should be avoided?

M-Dryl can affect your reaction. Avoid dangerous activities until you are familiar with how they will impact you. You may be unable to react properly. Diphenhydramine can be exacerbated by alcohol. Before using other medicines that contain M-Dryl, consult your doctor or pharmacist. You should also avoid using any other medicines that contain M-Dryl. Overdosing on this medication can lead to death.

Interaction with other drug

Before using M-Dryl, consult your doctor or pharmacist. This is especially important if you are taking any medications that may cause you to become drowsy (such as an opioid, a muscle relaxer, or medication for anxiety, seizures, etc.). Inform your physician of any medications you are currently taking or have begun or stopped taking. Included are prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medicines.
