What is Lytgobi?
Lytgobi, or futibatinib, belongs to the class of drugs called kinase inhibitors. Futibatinib blocks the action of an abnormal protein, which signals the cancer cell to multiply. It can slow down or even stop cancer cell growth.Lytgobi can be used to treat cancer of the bile duct that is metastatic or cannot be removed surgically.

Lytgobi is only effective if you are diagnosed with the right type of tumour.
Warnings
Lytgobi should not be used if you have an allergy to futibatinib or other medicines, including any of the components found in Lytgobi.Lytgobi may interact with other medications. Tell your pharmacist and doctor what you take or intend to use. You may be asked to adjust the dosage of medications, or your doctor will monitor for any side effects.Inform your doctor of any diabetes, bleeding disorders, kidney and liver issues, or anaemia.Do not use it other than as prescribed. Inform your doctor of any other medications you are taking or if there is a medical condition or allergy.
Before you take this drug
Tell your doctor about any of the following to ensure that Lytgobi will be safe for you:
- Vision or eye disorders
Futibatinib may harm an unborn child if either the mother or father are taking this medication.
- You may require a pregnancy check if you're female. Use birth control during treatment and at least one week after the last dose.
- Use birth control if you're a male and your partner can get pregnant. Continue to use birth control at least one week after your last dose
- Inform your doctor immediately if you become pregnant.
You should not breastfeed for at least a week after taking this medication.
How to take Lytgobi?
Read all the instructions and directions provided by your physician. Follow your physician's exact dose. Sometimes your doctor will change the dose.Lytgobi can be taken once daily, with or without food, at the same approximate time.Do not chew or crush the tablet.Do not take another Lytgobi dose if you vomit soon after taking it. Do not miss your scheduled dose.If you experience certain side effects, your treatment may be discontinued or delayed.Lytgobi requires that you see an eye doctor before starting the medication, then at least every two months during the first six months and every three months after.Adherence to a diet plan may be essential. You should follow the instructions given by your physician or dietitian. Find out what foods to eat and which ones you should avoid.You will be required to have your blood tested when you are treated with Lytgobi.Use artificial tears or eye gels to lubricate your eyes during Lytgobi treatment.Keep away from heat and moisture. Store at room temperature.
Details on dosage
Adult dose for cholangiocarcinoma biliary tract
Comment: Usual dosage: 20 mg (5 4 mg tablets taken once daily)
Confirm that there is a FGFR2 fusion gene or another rearrangement before starting treatment.
Treatment should be continued as long as the disease progresses or until unacceptable toxicities occur.
Use: Patients who have previously been treated with unresectable or locally advanced intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma that harbors fibroblast Growth Factor receptor 2 gene fusions (FGFR2) or other rearrangements.
What happens if I miss the dose?
If you miss a dose, take it immediately. However, if the delay is more than 12 hours, you should skip that dose. Never take two doses of the same medicine at once.
What happens if I overdose?
Call 1-800-222-1222 for poison help or seek immediate medical attention.
What should be avoided?
Grapefruit can interact with futibatinib, causing side effects. Avoid consuming grapefruit products.
Side effects of Lytgobi
If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergy to Lytgobi, seek immediate medical attention: difficulty breathing, hives, swelling in your lips, face, throat, or tongue.
Lytgobi can cause severe side effects. If you experience:
- Changes in vision such as blurred vision or seeing flashes, black spots, etc.
- Muscle cramps
- You may experience tingling or numbness around the mouth.
Side effects of Lytgobi may include:
- Stomach pain is nausea, vomiting, constipation, or diarrhoea.
- Dry mouth, dry skin, or dry eye
- Pain and burning after urinating;
- Tiredness or weakness
- Redness, swelling, or pain on your palms or soles
- Muscle or joint pain
- Changes in your taste buds;
- Change in the appearance of or coloration of nails
- Hair loss;
- Abnormal lab tests;
- High blood sugar: increased thirst, increased urine, dry mouth, fruity breath odour;
- Low blood sugar--headache; hunger, sweating, irritability, dizziness and fast heart rate
- Low blood potassium Leg cramps; constipation; irregular heartbeats or chest flutterings Increased thirst or urination. Numbness, tingling, or muscle weakness
- High calcium levels cause fatigue, confusion, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, or constipation. Weight Loss.
- Low blood sodium: headache, confusion, problems with thinking or memory, weakness, feeling unsteady
- Low blood cell counts: fever, chills, tiredness, mouth sores, and skin sores Easy bruising. Unusual bleeding. Pale skin. Cold hands and feet. Feeling light-headed.

Interaction with other drug
Inform your physician of all medications taken, including:
- Itraconazole;
- Rifampin.
