What is Ludent?
The substance Ludent strengthens the enamel of teeth, preventing dental caries.Ludent prevents tooth decay for people who drink water with low fluoride levels (less than 0.06 parts per million).This medication guide does not list all possible uses for Ludent.
Side effects of Ludent
If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention: difficulty breathing, hives, swelling of your lips, face, or throat.
Ludent can cause serious side effects. If you experience:
- Very upset stomach
- Vomiting, nausea,
- Any changes to the appearance of teeth, such as staining or pitting,
You may experience less serious side effects or none at all.

Before you take this drug
If the fluoride level in your water exceeds 0.6 parts per billion (ppb), you should not use Ludent.You can contact your local water provider to determine the fluoride content in your water. The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention can provide you with information on drinking water in the United States.
If you:
- Have you ever had sores, ulcers, or sores on your lips
- You are pregnant or nursing.
How to take Ludent?
Read and comply with any instructions that accompany your medication, and follow all directions carefully. Follow the directions on the label.The dose of Ludent is determined by your age and the amount of this medicine in your water. You do not have to take Ludent in general if your water contains more than 0.6 ppm of fluoride.Follow all instructions carefully when administering this medicine to your child.Measuring liquid medicine is important. Use either the supplied dosing device or another tool intended to measure dose (not spoon).You can take the liquid drops undiluted or mix them with food or liquid. This mixture can be consumed immediately. Your items should never be kept for future use.You can dissolve or chew the chewable tablet in your mouth prior to swallowing it. This medicine is best taken at night after brushing your teeth.After taking Ludent, do not rinse your mouth or eat anything.Ludent is best taken regularly for maximum benefit.Store away from heat and moisture at room temperature.
What happens if I miss the dose?
If you are almost due for your next dose, skip the missed one. Never take two doses of the same medicine at once.
What happens if I overdose?
Call 1-800-222-1222 for poison help or seek immediate medical attention.The symptoms of an overdose may include sudden burning, pain in the tongue, nausea, vomiting, and stomach cramps.
What should be avoided?
After taking Ludent, avoid drinking or eating dairy products like milk or yogurt. Avoid calcium-fortified drinks for at least 1 hour after taking Ludent.Use only the laxatives or antacids that your doctor has prescribed. Some laxatives and anti-acids contain an ingredient that can inhibit your body's ability to absorb Ludent.
Interaction with other drug
Ludent can be less effective if taken with certain medicines. Take this medicine 1 hour before taking any of the medicines listed below:
- An antacid;
- A laxative;
- A mineral or multivitamin supplement that contains magnesium, calcium, or aluminium
Ludent may be affected by other drugs, such as vitamins and herbal remedies. Inform your doctor of all the medicines you are taking and those that you stop or start using.
