What is Jublia Solution?

The topical Jublia solution is a mixture of efinaconazole. This antifungal drug fights infections that are caused by fungus. The Jublia Solution is used for the treatment of a fungal toenail infection called onychomycosis.

Jublia is a colourless, clear solution that can range from pale yellow to white. It comes in a plastic bottle and has a brush that flows through.

Warnings

The Jublia Solution is only for external applications. It is not intended for intravaginal, oral, or ophthalmic use. This product is only for toenails or the skin immediately surrounding them.Jublia should not be used with nail polish or other cosmetic products.

Before you take this drug

If you have an allergy to efinaconazole, Jublia should be avoided. Unknown is whether or not efinaconazole can harm an unborn child. If you plan to become pregnant or are already expecting, notify your physician as soon as possible.

It is unknown whether topical efinaconazole can pass into breast milk or whether it can harm nursing babies. You should tell your doctor that you are nursing a child. Jublia is not recommended for children under 6 years of age.

How to take Jublia?

Follow the directions on your prescription label to use Jublia exactly as directed by your physician. Please follow all the instructions on the prescription label. Use this medication only as directed. Do not exceed the recommended dose or use it for longer than recommended. Jublia can be applied once daily to the affected toenails for approximately 11 months (48 weeks).

Toenails should be thoroughly dried and washed before applying Jublia. Jublia should be applied at least 10 minutes after bathing or showering. This medicine should be applied to the whole nail and the underside of it. Let the medicine dry before you put on your socks or shoes. Wait at least 10 minutes after applying Jublia before taking a shower or bath.

Do not apply this medication to any skin other than the cuticles and the area around the toenail. If your symptoms don't improve or worsen while taking Jublia, call your doctor. Do not stop taking the medicine before it is completely cleared. Before your infection has fully cleared up, you may experience symptoms. Skipping doses is one way of becoming resistant to future infections. Keep away from heat and moisture. Store it upright at room temperature. Don't freeze.

Keep the bottle upright and away from heat or moisture. Keep your bottle tightly closed when not in use to maintain maximum freshness and prevent leaks. Jublia is highly flammable. Avoid using near-open flames or high temperatures. Smoke only after the nail solution is completely dry.

Details on dosage

Adult dose for onychomycosis (toenail):

For 48 weeks, apply to the affected toenails once daily.
Comments:
Use the integrated brush with flow-through.
The toenail and its folds, as well as the bed of toenails, hyponychium, and the underside of toenail plates, should all be covered.
Use: To treat onychomycosis (onychomycosis) of the nail(s), caused by Trichophyton mentagrophytes and T. Rubrum.

The usual paediatric dose for onychomycosis is toenail:

For 6 year olds and older, apply to the affected toenail or toenails once daily for 48 weeks.
Comments:
Use the integrated brush with flow-through.
The toenail and its folds, as well as the bed of toenails, hyponychium, and the underside of toenail plates, should all be covered.
Use: To treat onychomycosis (onychomycosis) of the nail(s) caused by T rubrum or T mentagrophytes

What happens if I miss the dose?

If you are almost due for the next dose, skip the dose that was missed. Never take two doses of the same medicine at once.

What happens if I overdose?

Overdoses of Jublia are not considered dangerous. If anyone accidentally swallows the medicine, seek emergency medical care or contact the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222.

What should be avoided?

This medicine should not be taken in the mouth or on your vaginal area. Jublia is only for toenails. Toe nails should not be treated with nail polish or pedicures.

Side effects of Jublia

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergy to Jublia, seek immediate medical attention: Hives, difficulty breathing, swelling in your mouth, face, lips, or throat

If you experience:

  • The affected toenail may be swollen, red, and itchy.

Some of the side effects that may occur with Jublia include:

  • Pain, inflammation, stinging, or itching where the medication was applied.
  • Ingrown toenail

Interaction with other drug

The other medications you take are unlikely to affect the medicine applied to your nail. Many drugs interact. Inform your health care providers of all the medicines that you take, including prescription medicines and over-the-counter medications.
