What is Hydrochlorothiazide and benazepril ?

Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide (water pill), and Benazepril is an ACE (ACE stands for Angiotensin Converting Enzyme) inhibitor.Combination medicine for hypertension (high blood pressure)This medication guide does not list all possible uses of hydrochlorothiazide or benazepril.

Side effects of Hydrochlorothiazide and benazepril

If you experience symptoms of an allergic response (hives), a severe reaction to your skin (skin pain, skin irritation, skin burning, blistering, or swelling in the face or throat), or if your skin is irritated, seek emergency medical attention.If you're African-American, your chances of having an allergic reaction are higher.

Benazepril and hydrochlorothiazide can cause serious side effects. If you experience:

  • A feeling of lightheadedness, as if you could pass out.
  • Jaundice
  • Blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain, or seeing halos around light
  • Fever, chills and flu-like symptoms; sore throats, mouth sores.
  • Signs of electrolyte deficiency: leg cramps, constipation or muscle pain, jitteriness, feeling jittery or jittery-like, increased thirst, increased urination or numbness, and loss of mobility;
  • If you have kidney problems, it could be that your urine is not as frequent or that you are experiencing swelling of the feet or ankles or feeling tired.
  • Joint discomfort and new or worsening lupus symptoms, including a rash that gets worse in the sun on your arms or cheeks.

Some of the common side effects associated with hydrochlorothiazide or benazepril include:

  • Dizziness;
  • Cough;
  • Headache

Warnings

Use it only if you're not pregnant. Stop taking benazepril or hydrochlorothiazide if you get pregnant. Tell your doctor immediately.This medicine should not be used if your urination is impaired, if angioedema has ever occurred, or if sulfa drugs or any ACE inhibitors cause allergies. Do not take benazepril and hydrochlorothiazide within 36 hours of taking a medicine that contains sacubitril, such as Entresto.Do not take hydrochlorothiazide or benazepril if you have diabetes.

Before you take this drug

This medicine should not be used if you have an allergy to hydrochlorothiazide or if your body is sensitive to benazepril or hydrochlorothiazide.

  • You are unable to urinate.
  • You have had angioedema before.
  • You recently took a medicine for your heart called sacubitril.
  • You are allergic to sulfa medications.
  • You are allergic to any ACE-inhibitor (captopril, enalapril, fosinopril, lisinopril, moexipril, perindopril, quinapril, ramipril, and trandolapril).

Take the medicine that contains sacubitril, such as Entersto, at least 36 hours after you take hydrochlorothiazide or benazepril.Do not take hydrochlorothiazide or benazepril with any blood pressure medication that contains aliskiren if you have diabetes.If you have kidney problems, you may need to avoid using hydrochlorothiazide or benazepril in combination with aliskiren.

Notify your physician if any of the following occur:

  • Allergies or asthma
  • Kidney disease (or dialysis if you have it);
  • Liver disease, or cirrhosis.
  • Glaucoma;
  • Congestive heart failure;
  • Gout;
  • An electrolyte imbalance is a low potassium or magnesium level in the blood.
  • Lupus;
  • If you have an allergy to penicillin
  • If you're on a diet low in salt,

You should not take this medication if you're pregnant. Benazepril may cause harm or even death to an unborn child if taken during the second or third trimester.While using this medication, breastfeeding should not be done.

How do I take Hydrochlorothiazide and benazepril?

Read and adhere to all instructions or guides that accompany your medication.Sometimes, your doctor will change the dose. You must take the medication exactly as prescribed.If you experience diarrhea or nausea on a regular basis, or if your sweating is higher than normal, call your doctor. While taking benazepril and hydrochlorothiazide, you can easily become dehydrated. It can cause very low blood pressure, electrolyte disorders, or renal failureMaintain a steady blood pressure monitor. You may need to check your kidney function. If you are dehydrated or have vomited, your blood and urine will be tested.Tell your surgeon if you plan to undergo surgery that you're taking hydrochlorothiazide or benazepril.Even if you are feeling well, continue to take hydrochlorothiazide or benazepril according to the instructions. High blood pressure can often be symptomless. Blood pressure medications may be needed for the rest of your life.Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Keep the tablets and the moisture-absorbing preservative in the original containers.

Details on dosage

Usual Adult Dose for Hypertension:

Benazepril 5 to 20 mg; Hydrochlorothiazide 6.25 to 25 mg orally once daily are the prescribed medicines.

Benazepril 20 mg; Hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg are the maximum recommended doses.
Comment: Increase the dose if necessary after 2 or 3 weeks to reach the blood pressure target.

What happens if I miss the dose?

If you are almost due for your next dose, skip the missed one. Never take two doses of the same medicine at once.

What happens if I overdose?

Call 1-800-222-1222 immediately if you suspect a poisonous substance has entered the body, or seek immediate medical advice.Overdose symptoms include feeling thirsty, lightheaded, or fainting.

What should be avoided?

Use potassium supplements and salt substitutes only if your doctor recommends them.Drink enough fluids to avoid becoming dehydrated or overheated during exercise or in hot weather. You should follow your doctor's advice on the amount and type of fluids to drink.You may get dizzy if you stand up quickly from a seated or lying position.Alcohol consumption can increase the side effects of hydrochlorothiazide or benazepril.The use of hydrochlorothiazide can increase your risk of skin cancer. Avoid tanning beds or sunlight. When you're outdoors, wear protective clothing and use sunblock with an SPF of 30 or more. You may be asked to undergo regular skin checks by your doctor.

Interaction with other drug

Tell your doctor all the medicines you are taking. There are many drugs that can interact with hydrochlorothiazide or benazepril.

  • Other blood pressure medications, including another diuretic (water pill) or other medication to lower blood pressure;
  • Digoxin;
  • Lithium;
  • Cancer Medicine
  • Gold injections for arthritis
  • Insulin, or oral diabetes medication
  • A muscle relaxer;
  • Medicine to prevent organ transplant rejection—cyclosporine, everolimus, sirolimus, tacrolimus,
  • Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Diclofenac, and Indomethacin are all nsaids.
