What is Hydralazine and isosorbide dinitrate?

Hydralazine acts as a vasodilator. It relaxes veins and arteries to make it easier for the heart to pump.The drug isosorbide dinitrate belongs to a class of drugs known as nitrates. Dinitrate dilates blood vessels to make it easier to pump blood through and for the blood to flow.Combination medicine for heart failure.This medication guide does not list all possible uses of hydralazine or isosorbide dinitrate.

Side effects of Hydralazine and isosorbide dinitrate

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention: difficulty breathing, hives, swelling of the face, lips, or throat.Headaches can occur when using hydralazine or isosorbide, particularly at first. As you continue taking the medication, these headaches will become less intense. Don't stop taking isosorbide and hydralazine. Before taking any headache medication, call your doctor.

Both hydralazine (hydralazine) and isosorbide dinitrate (isosorbide dinitrate) can cause serious side effects. If you experience:

  • Experienced symptoms of lightheadedness can cause one to become dizzy and feel as though they could pass out.
  • Numbness in the hands or feet
  • Swelling or joint pain
  • Fever, chest pains, and a general feeling of unwell-being.
  • Rapid heart rate
  • Shortness of breath That is worse than usual.
  • Heart attack symptoms: chest pain or pressure spreading to your jaw and shoulders, nausea, or sweating.

Some side effects are more common in older adults.

Warnings

If you take a medicine for erectile dysfunction or pulmonary arterial high blood pressure (PAH), such as sildenafil, avanafil, tadalafil, vardenafil, Levitra, Staxyn, and riociguat, do not use hydralazine or isosorbide. There may be serious, even life-threatening side effects.

Before you take this drug

Avoid using hydralazine or isosorbide dinitrate when you take medicine for erectile dysfunction (ED) or pulmonary arterial high blood pressure (PAH). These include sildenafil, avanafil, tadalafil, vardenafil, Levitra, Staxyn, and riociguat. There may be serious, even life-threatening, side effects.If you have an allergy to hydralazine or isosorbide, mononitrate isosorbide, or nitroglycerin, then do not use the hydralazine or isosorbide.

Tell your doctor about any of the following to ensure that hydralazine is safe for you:

  • Lupus;
  • Low blood pressure
  • Hypertension, pulmonary arterial

This medicine is not known to harm unborn babies. Inform your doctor immediately if you are pregnant or planning on becoming pregnant.It is unknown if hydralazine or isosorbide dinitrate can pass into breast milk or if they could harm a baby who is nursing. You should tell your doctor if you're breastfeeding a child.

How to take Hydralazine and isosorbide dinitrate?

Please follow all the instructions on the prescription label. Your doctor may change your dosage from time to time in order to get you the best results. Use this medication only as directed. Do not exceed the recommended dose or use it for longer.Stopping abruptly can make your condition worse. Your condition may worsen if you stop suddenly.Store away from moisture, heat, and light at room temperature.

Details on dosage

Adult dose for congestive heart failure:

Initial dose: Hydralazine 37,5 mg; Isosorbide Dinitrate 20,5 mg orally 3 times per day.
Maximum dose: Hydralazine, 75 mg. Isosorbide dinitrate, 40 mg Orally three times per day.
Comments:
Some patients experience side effects, and it may take them longer to reach the maximum tolerated dosage.
If side effects are intolerable, you may reduce the dose to hydralazine 18,75 mg and isosorbide dinitrate 10mg three times daily. You should increase the dosage as soon as symptoms subside.
Use: treating heart failure in black patients as an adjunct to standard treatment to improve survival, prolong the time before hospitalization, and improve patient-reported function status. Limited experience with patients who have New York Heart Association (NYHA) class IV heart failure.

What happens if I miss the dose?

Please follow all the instructions on the prescription label. Your doctor will occasionally adjust your dosage to ensure you achieve the best possible results. Use hydralazine or isosorbide dinitrate only at the recommended dose.

What happens if I overdose?

Call 1-800-222-1222 immediately if you suspect poisoning and seek immediate medical treatment.Overdose symptoms include a tingling or warm feeling under the skin, confusion, and severe dizziness. Other symptoms include a throbbing headache with fast heartbeats.

What should be avoided?

Hydralazine or isosorbide dinitrate can impair your reactions and thinking. You should be careful when driving or doing anything else that requires you to stay alert. You may get dizzy if you stand up quickly from a seated or lying position. To avoid a fall, get up slowly.Alcohol consumption can have side effects when taken with this medication.

Interaction with other drug

Other drugs, such as vitamins and herbal products, may also interact with hydralazine or isosorbide. Inform your healthcare providers of all the medicines you are taking and those you plan to take.
