What is GuaiFenesinTM DM?

Dextromethorphan works as a cough suppressant. Guaifenesin works as an expectorant.GuaiFenesin is a combination medication used to treat chest congestion and cough caused by allergies or the common flu.Dextromethorphan does not treat a cough caused by smoking.This leaflet does not list all the brands or forms of medication that are available.GuaiFenesin can be used in other ways not mentioned in this guide.

Side effects of GuaiFenesin DM

If you experience any of these signs of an allergic reaction, seek medical assistance immediately: hives, difficulty breathing and swelling in your lips, face, tongue or throat.

GuaiFenesin can cause serious side effects. GuaiFenesin DM should be stopped immediately if:

  • Mood changes
  • Headache or severe
  • Feeling like you could pass out or dizziness;

Guaifenesin DM can cause a variety of side effects.

  • Dizziness, drowsiness;
  • Sleep problems (insomnia);
  • Diarrhoea;
  • Feeling nervous, restless, or anxious

Warnings

If you've taken an MAO-inhibitor in the last 14 days (such as isocarboxazid or linezolid), do not take this medication.

Before you take this drug

You should not take GuaiFenesinDM if you've taken MAO inhibitors in the last 14 days. A dangerous medication interaction may occur. MAO inhibitors are isocarboxazid (linezolid), methylene blue injection, phenelzine, and selegiline.

If you suffer from:

  • A cough that produces mucus
  • Asthma, emphysema, or chronic lung disease.

Consult your doctor before taking this medication if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.This medication may contain phenylalanine. If you have phenylketonuria, check the label of your medication.

How to take GuaiFenesin Dm?

Follow the directions on the label or those prescribed by your physician. Cold and cough medicines are only to be used for a short time until symptoms have cleared up.Follow the directions on the label when giving cough medicine or cold medicine. Never use cough and cold medicine to put a child to sleep.Measuring liquid medicine is important. Use the provided dosing device or a dose-measuring tool (not a spoon).It may be necessary to shake the liquid prior to measuring a dose. Please follow all the instructions on the label.Do not chew, crush, or break the extended-release tablet.The granules can be sprinkled directly on your tongue. Swallow immediately.While taking this medication, drink extra fluids in order to loosen congestion and lubricate the throat.If your symptoms don't improve within 7 days or you experience a rash or headaches, call your doctor.Tell the surgeon if you've taken the medicine in the last few days and if you are going to need any kind of surgery.Store in an environment free from heat and moisture at room temperature.

What happens if I miss the dose?

GuaiFenesin is only used as needed. You may not have a schedule.If it's almost time for your next dose, skip any missed dosage. Never take two doses in one go.

What happens if I overdose?

Reach out immediately if a poison threat presents itself and contact 1-800-222-1222 or seek emergency medical attention immediately.

What should be avoided?

You should avoid driving or other hazardous activities until you are sure how GuaiFenesin DM affects you. You may be unable to react properly.Alcohol consumption can have side effects when taken with this medication.Before using any other cold or cough medicines, ask your doctor or pharmacist if they contain similar ingredients.

Interaction with other drug

Use this medicine only if you are not taking any other medications that can cause drowsiness, slow breathing, or anxiety (such as an opioid, muscle relaxant, or medication for seizures).Before using this medication, ask your doctor or pharmacist if you also use any other medications, such as vitamins and herbal remedies. Some medicines may have unwanted or harmful effects when taken together. This medication guide does not list all possible interactions.
