What is GlyBuride?
GlyBuride is used in conjunction with exercise and diet to control blood sugar levels among adults who have type 2 diabetes mellitus. GlyBuride is not intended to treat type 1 diabetes.GlyBuride, also known as Eqv-DiaBeta, may be used in other ways not mentioned in the medication guide.
Side effects of GlyBURIDE
If you experience symptoms of an allergy (hives), a skin reaction that is severe (red or purple skin rash, blistering, or sore eyes), or any other serious reaction, seek emergency medical attention.
Glyburide may have serious side effects. Contact your doctor immediately if:
- Dark urine and jaundice
- Itching, rashes, and severe redness of the skin
- Pale skin is prone to bleeding or bruising.
- Fever, chills, and mouth sores are all symptoms of a fever.
- Low sodium levels in the body can cause headaches, confusion, slurred words, weakness, and nausea.
Glyburide, also known as Eqv-diabeta (equivalent to glyburide), may cause low sugar in older adults.
Some of the most common side effects associated with glyburide® (Eqv diabeta®) include:
- Low blood sugar
- Feeling sick and having heartburn;
- Joint or muscle pain
- Blurred vision
- Mild rash, skin redness, or a mild eruption
There may be other side effects. Call your physician if experiencing side effects; report these adverse reactions by calling 1-800-FDA-1088.
Warnings
GlyBuride is not recommended for use if you're being treated with Bosentan or Tracleer or have diabetic ketoneacidosis. Consult your doctor to get treatment. GlyBuride should not be used to treat type 1 diabetes.
Before you take this drug
GlyBuride is not recommended for people who are allergic or have certain conditions.
- You are receiving bosentan treatment (Tracleer);
- You have Type 1 diabetes.
- Diabetic ketoacidosis is a serious condition that requires immediate medical attention.
If you've ever:
- Hemolytic Anaemia
- An enzyme deficiency called glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (G6PD);
- A nerve disorder that affects bodily functions.
- Liver or kidney disease
- An allergy to sulfa drugs.
Tell your doctor, before taking GlyBURIDE® (Eqv DiaBeta), if you've taken any other oral diabetes medicines or used insulin in the last 2 weeks.GlyBURIDE, also known as Eqv-DiaBeta (Eqv), may cause serious heart issues. However, not managing your diabetes could damage your heart or other organs. Speak to your doctor regarding the benefits and risks of using this medication.You should follow your doctor's advice about this medication when you become pregnant. Managing diabetes during pregnancy is important, as high blood sugar can cause problems for both mother and baby. You may have to temporarily stop using GlyBuride for Eqv-DiaBeta just prior to your due date.This medicine should not be used while breastfeeding.
How to take GlyBURIDE?
GlyBuride is taken at breakfast or with the first meal of the day.
Read all the instructions or guides that come with your medication and follow the directions. Sometimes, your doctor will change the dose. You must take the medication exactly as prescribed.You may also need blood tests in your doctor's clinic.If you have hypoglycemia, then you may feel a lot of symptoms, including being very hungry, feeling dizzy, irritable, or confused, and feeling anxious. If you want to treat hyperglycemia quickly, consume or drink sugary foods or drinks (fruit juices, candy, crackers, or raisins).In the event of severe hypoglycemia, your doctor might prescribe a glucagon injectable kit. Make sure that your close family members or friends are familiar with how to administer this medication in case of an emergency.Watch for symptoms of hyperglycemia, such as an increase in thirst or urine.Stress, illness, surgery, and alcohol can affect blood sugar levels. Consult your doctor before you change your medication or dose schedule.Your dosage may need to change if your doctor switches the brand, strength, or type of GlyBURIDE® (Eqv DiaBeta). If you are unsure about the GlyBuride you received at the pharmacy, ask your pharmacist.Keep the bottle at room temperature, away from heat and moisture. When not in use, keep the bottle closed tightly.
What happens if I miss the dose?
If you are almost due for the next dose, skip the missed one. Never take more than one dose at a time.
What happens if I overdose?
Call Poison Help at 1-800-222-1222 or seek emergency medical care. An overdose of GlyBURIDE can lead to life-threatening hypoglycemia.Severe hypoglycemia can cause extreme weakness, nausea, sweating, tremors, confusion, difficulty speaking, fast heartbeats, or seizures.
What should be avoided?
Alcohol is a depressant and can interfere with your diabetes treatment. Alcohol lowers your blood sugar levels and can interfere with diabetes treatments.GlyBURIDE, also known as Eqv-DiaBeta (Eqv), could cause you to get a sunburn faster. Avoid tanning or sunlight. When you're outdoors, wear protective clothing and use sunblock with SPF 30 or greater.
Interaction with other drug
Take your GlyBURIDE dose (Eqv DiaBeta) 4 hours prior to taking colesevelam if you are also takingGlyBURIDE® (Eqv DiaBeta) might not work well if you are taking other medications at the same time. Other drugs may also have an effect on blood sugar levels. These include prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal products. This list does not include all interactions. Inform your doctor of all the medications you are taking, as well as any new ones.
