What is Glutamine?

How to take Glutamine?

Do not exceed the recommended dosage or duration. Use the recommended dose and do not exceed it.You may have to take the glutamine six times a day for as long as 16 weeks.How often you should take glutamine per day depends on why you're taking it. Follow your doctor's advice.If not directed to do so, take oral glutamine powder along with your meal or snack.Take glutamate tablets with an empty stomach at least one hour before or two hours after eating.You can dissolve your oral glutamine powder dose in 8 ounces or more of liquid, hot or cold. The powder can also be mixed with soft foods such as yoghurt, pudding, or applesauce. Mix the powder with a soft food such as pudding, applesauce, or yoghurt.Never pour glutamine powder directly into tube-feeding formula. Mix the powder and water together, then inject it into the tube feeding formula using a syringe.You may require frequent urine or blood tests while using glutamine.The use of glutamine is often part of an overall treatment plan that includes a tube-feeding regimen, IV fluids, and a special diet. You should always follow your doctor's or nutritionist's diet and medicine plan.Keep away from heat and moisture. Store each oral powder dose in the packet until you are ready to take the medication.

Adult dosage for dietary supplements:

The average dose is 10 grammes orally, three times per day.
The dose range is 5 to 30 grammes orally every day.

Usual Adult Dose for Short Bowel Syndrome:

Use oral: Take 5 grammes orally six times a day, at intervals of 2 to 3 hours, during meals and snacks. This can be taken for as long as 16 weeks, in conjunction with nutritional support, growth hormone, or both.Adult dose for sickle cell anaemia:A clinical trial of seven patients showed that glutamine 30g per day orally for 4 weeks reduced the susceptibility to oxidative damage of sickle-shaped red blood cells.The usual paediatric dose for sickle cell anaemiaAfter 24 weeks of oral glutamine therapy at 600 mg/kg/day, there were improvements in the nutritional parameters and resting energy consumption in a study on 27 children (5.9–17.9 years of age).

What happens if I miss the dose?

As soon as possible, take the missed dose. If your next dose is approaching, skip the missed dose. You should not take more medicine to compensate for a missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

A glutamine overdose is unlikely to cause life-threatening symptoms.

What should be avoided?

If your doctor prescribes any restrictions on foods, drinks, or activities, follow their instructions.

Interaction with other drug
