What is Fostamatinib?
Fostamatinib can be used to treat a condition called chronic immune thrombocytopenia. This is a bleeding disorder caused by an absence of platelets. It is only given after all other treatments have failed. Fostamatinib can be used in other ways not mentioned in this guide.
Side effects of Fostamatinib
If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction: hives, difficulty breathing and/or facial or throat swelling. Please seek medical help immediately.
Fostamatinib may cause serious side effects. If you experience:
- Severe diarrhea;
- Stomach pain (upper right corner);
- Dark urine jaundice
- Shortness of breath, headaches, and chest pain
- An infection can be characterized by a fever or a sore throat.
If you experience certain side effects, your fostamatinib dosage may be reduced or discontinued permanently.
Some of the common side effects caused by fostamatinib include:
- Increased blood pressure
- Diarrhea, nausea, and stomach pain;
- Abnormal liver function tests
- Chest pain;
- Dizziness, tiredness;
- Rash;
- Cold symptoms often include stuffy noses, sneezing fits and sore throats.

Warnings
Fostamatinib may cause your blood pressure to rise, even dangerously. Fostamatinib can also cause severe diarrhea, liver problems, and infections. If you experience severe diarrhea, headaches, chest discomfort, nausea, a sore throat, or a fever, call your doctor.
Before you take this drug
Fostamatinib cannot be used by anyone under the age of 18.
Tell your doctor about any of the following:
- High blood pressure
- Liver problems are a serious condition.
Avoid using fostamatinib while pregnant. This drug could harm an unborn child. Use birth control to avoid pregnancy during treatment with fostamatinib and for at least one month after the last dose. Do not breastfeed for 1 month after the last dose of this medication.
How to take Fostamatinib?
Take time to carefully read and follow any directions included with your medication, especially those provided by your healthcare provider. Your dosage may change on occasion - it is imperative that you take it exactly as prescribed. Consume the medication either with or without food. Fostamatinib may lead to diarrhea. You may need to adjust your diet, increase fluid intake or take antidiarrhea medication as prescribed by your healthcare provider in order to treat or prevent it. Always follow their advice if dealing with or preventing diarrhea. Fostamatinib may cause your blood pressure to rise suddenly and potentially dangerously, prompting frequent monitoring. Be sure to monitor it closely. Your doctor may order regular medical tests. Test results could require them to adjust your dosage or stop administering fostamatinib altogether. Store at room temperature away from heat and moisture, keeping both tablets and the moisture-absorbing preservative in their respective original containers.
Details on dosage
Adult dose for thrombocytopenia:
After a month, if the platelet count is not at least 50 x 10-(9)/L, increase to 150mg orally twice a day.
Comments:
This drug can be taken with food or without.
In the event of a missed dosage, tell patients to take the next dose at their regularly scheduled time.
Use the lowest dose possible to maintain and achieve a platelet level of at least 50 x 10-(9)/L. This will reduce the risk of bleeding.
Use: To treat thrombocytopenia among adult patients with chronic immunothrombocytopenia who have not responded to previous treatments.
What happens if I miss the dose?
Do not take the missed dose. Use your next dose as usual. Be careful not to take two doses in one sitting.

What should be avoided?
Whenever your doctor prescribes food, beverage or activity restrictions for you, be sure to follow their orders exactly.
Interaction with other drug
Other drugs, such as vitamins and herbal remedies, may also affect fostamatinib.Inform your doctor of all medications you are currently taking as well as those that you plan to start or discontinue taking.
