What is Florbetapir F 18?

Florbetapir F 18 is a radioactive substance that allows images of certain organs within the human body to be identified using the PET (positron emission tomography) scan. Florbetapir F18 is administered alongside the PET scan to identify the presence of plaque in the brain. Plaque is the accumulation of certain proteins as well as nerve cells with disease that are typically located within the cerebral cortex of people with signs of Alzheimer's disease and other causes of dementia. Florbetapir F 18 can also be used for other purposes that are not mentioned in this guide.

If you use an infant pump during this period, discard the milk and don't give it to your child.

How to take Florbetapir F 18?

The drug Florbetapir F 18 is administered into a vein through a healthcare professional. F18 is typically administered 30 to 50 minutes before the PET scan.

The Usual Adult Dose of Positron Emission Tomography Imaging

370 Mbq (10 mCi) Maximum 50 micrograms mass dose, intravenously, as a single dose with a total volume of 10 mL or less.

Comments This injection should be followed by one intravenous flush of 0.9 percent unsterile sodium chloride.

Utilize PET imaging of the brain for estimating the density of plaques containing beta-amyloid in adult patients suffering from cognitive impairment being examined to determine Alzheimer's disease (AD) and other causes of cognitive decline.
