What is Flibanserin?

Flibanserin is a treatment for the lack of sexual desire among women who have not experienced menopausal symptoms and have never experienced low sexual desire before. Flibanserin is used only when the sexual insanity is not a result of medical conditions, a relationship disorder, a mental illness, or the use of drugs or other medications. Flibanserin is not suitable for women who have gone through menopausal symptoms. Flibanserin also isn't suitable for men. Flibanserin is available only through the specific program. Side effects of Flibanserin

Flibanserin may cause serious side effects. Consult your doctor immediately in the event that you experience:

  • Severe drowsiness;
  • A feeling of lightheadedness, as if you're going to faint.

Common negative effects of flibanserin include:

  • Dizziness, drowsiness;
  • Tiredness;
  • Nausea;
  • Dry mouth;
  • Difficulty sleep.

Warnings

You shouldn't consume flibanserin for more than 2 hours after drinking alcohol. Discuss with your doctor all the medications you are currently taking and all the ones you will begin or stop taking. Numerous drugs interact, and some medications should not be combined.

Before you take this drug

It is not recommended to use flibanserin. If you have an allergy to the substance or are suffering from:

  • Liver disease;
  • If you've recently drunk alcohol,

It is recommended not to consume flibanserin for more than 2 hours after drinking alcohol. Certain medicines may cause undesirable or harmful effects when taken in conjunction with flibanserin. Your doctor could alter the treatment plan when you are also using:

  • Nefazodone;
  • An antibiotic—ciprofloxacin, clarithromycin, erythromycin, and telithromycin;
  • Antifungal medicine: fluconazole, itraconazole, ketoconazole, and posaconazole;
  • Antiviral medicine for treating the symptoms of hepatitis c-boceprevir and telaprevir;
  • Heart or blood pressure medicine—conivaptan, diltiazem, verapamil;
  • Hiv or aids medicine: atazanavir, fosamprenavir, indinavir, nelfinavir, ritonavir, and saquinavir.

Speak to your doctor if you were ever diagnosed with:

  • Alcoholism (or alcoholism if you drink alcohol);
  • Addiction to drugs;
  • Mental illness or depression
  • Lower blood pressure.

It isn't known if flibanserin can harm a newborn baby. If you are expecting or planning to become pregnant, seek medical advice immediately. Do not breastfeed when taking this medicine. Flibanserin is not allowed to be used by anyone younger than 18 years old.

How to take Flibanserin?

Follow the directions on the prescription label and also read all medication guides or instructions sheets. Make sure you use the medication exactly as prescribed. Use flibanserin only in the evening. Do not drink alcohol for at least two hours prior to taking flibanserin and for the following day. Alcohol may cause you to suffer from high blood pressure, which is dangerous if used in conjunction with flibanserin. Do not take your nighttime dose of flibanserin if you had a drink less than two hours prior to bedtime. Flibanserin will lower your blood pressure and cause you to feel dizzy. If you feel dizzy after taking this medication, lay down if you aren't already asleep. It can take up to 8 weeks for your symptoms to improve. Use the medication exactly according to the directions, and inform your physician if your symptoms don't improve. Place it in a cool, dry place free of heat and moisture.

Normal Adult Dose of Hypoactive or Sexual Desire
100 mg orally, once a night at the time of bed
Comments:
If a patient is not experiencing improvement in their hypoactive desire disorder (HSDD) after 8 weeks, the drug should be withdrawn.
The drug is not approved to treat HSDD in postmenopausal women or in males.
The drug is not used to enhance sexual performance.
Treatment for premenopausal women suffering from generalized, acquired HSDD that is characterized by a lack of sexual desire, which causes anxiety or difficulties with interpersonal relationships It is not caused by the presence of a psychiatric or medical disorder, issues within the relationship, or the consequences of a medication or a different drug substance.

What happens if I miss the dose?

Do not miss the missed dose, and take the medication the next day at night. Don't take flibanserin in the morning, and avoid taking two doses at once.

What should be avoided?

Flibanserin in a drink could result in dangerous or undesirable negative side effects.

Grapefruit could be in contact with flibanserin. This can cause adverse reactions. Do not use grapefruit-related products.

Avoid using any of these over-the-counter or herbal remedies without your doctor's guidance:

  • Cimetidine;
  • Gingko biloba;
  • Resveratrol;
  • John's wort

Low blood pressure or dizziness could cause falls and other accidents. Avoid operating machinery or driving for at least six hours after taking flibanserin. You should also be aware of how the medicine affects you. Your reaction could be impaired. Be careful not to get up too quickly from a lying or sitting position. You could be dizzy.

Interaction with other drug

It is sometimes not safe to take certain medicines simultaneously. Certain drugs may affect your blood levels and the other medications that you are taking. This could create side effects or render the drugs less effective. Combining this medication with other medications that cause you to feel drowsy may cause more drowsiness. Talk to your doctor prior to using opioids, a sleeping pill, a muscle relaxer, or medicine to treat seizures or anxiety. A variety of drugs can impact flibanserin. This includes prescription as well as over-the-counter supplements, vitamins, and herbal supplements. The interactions of all medications are not mentioned in this list.
