What is Ferrousal?

Ferrousal is one type of iron. Iron is normally obtained from food. Iron helps the blood transport oxygen to the organs and tissues in your body. It also helps muscle cells store oxygen. Ferrousal can be used to treat iron deficiencies.  Ferrousal can be used in other ways not mentioned in this guide.

Side effects of Ferrousal

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, or throat.

Ferrousal can cause serious side effects. If you experience:

  • Severe stomach pain or nausea
  • Cough, bloody mucus, and vomit that looks similar to coffee grounds
  • Fever;
  • Bloody or tarry stool.

Side effects of ferrous metal include:

  • Diarrhea, constipation;
  • Nausea, stomach pain;
  • Green-colored stools;
  • Loss of appetite

Warnings

Do not use it other than as directed. Inform your doctor of any other medications you are taking or if you have allergies or other medical conditions.

How to take Ferrousal?

If you have had any of the following:

  • Iron overload syndrome
  • A disorder of the red blood cells, such as thalassemia.
  • A condition that requires regular blood transfusions.

Consult your doctor before taking this medication if you're pregnant or nursing.Ferrousal should not be given to children without consulting a doctor.

How to take Ferrousal?

Be sure to follow any directions provided on your label or from your doctor. Do not eat for at least an hour or two hours before you take the pill. Dosage measurement of liquid medicine should always be carefully done using either the provided dosing device or dose measuring tool (but never with a spoon!). For accurate dosing results use this dosing device instead. Do not attempt to chew or crush the tablet. Dieting may be necessary, and you should follow any recommendations provided by a dietician or physician regarding what foods to avoid or consume. Store safely at room temperature away from heat and moisture

What happens if I miss the dose?

If you are almost due for your next dose, skip the missed one. Never take two doses of the same medicine at once.

What happens if I overdose?

Call the Poison Help Line immediately on 1-800-222-1222, or seek emergency medical help immediately if a child swallows any tablet by accident; in such an instance it's vital that 911 be called immediately as iron overdose can prove deadly for a youngster. Overdose symptoms include nausea, vomiting, bleeding, diarrhea, thirst, dryness of the skin, cramps in the muscles, and dizziness.

What should be avoided?

Avoid taking any other iron supplements. Take any vitamins or minerals only after consulting your doctor or pharmacist.

Interaction with other drug

Take Ferrousal 2 to 6 hours prior to or after taking the following medications:

  • An antacid;
  • Anti-biotic
  • A laxative.
