What is Ferrex-150?

Ferrex-150 is a mineral form of iron. Iron is essential for many body functions, including oxygen transport in the blood. Ferrex-150 can be used to prevent or treat iron deficiency and iron anemia. Ferrex-150 should not be used as a general nutritional supplement for people with a normal iron level. Ferrex-150 can be used in other ways not mentioned in this guide.

Side effects of  Ferrex-150

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention: difficulty breathing, hives, swelling of the face, lips, or throat.

Ferrex-150 can cause serious side effects. Contact your doctor immediately if:

  • Bloody or tarry stool;

  • Severe stomach cramps or pain.

Side effects of Ferrex 150 may include:

  • Constipation, diarrhea;

  • Nausea, upset stomach;

  • Black or dark-colored stools

  • Temporary staining of teeth

Warnings

Ferrex-150 should not be taken if you suffer from hemochromatosis or hemosiderosis. Ferrex-150 should be kept out of the reach of children. A child's accidental iron overdose can be deadly.

Before you take this drug

Ferrex-150 should not be taken if:

  • Hemochromatosis;

  • Hemosiderosis;

  • Anemia hemolytic.

Do not administer this medicine to an infant without first consulting with their physician and informing him/her if you are pregnant/nursing. You may need a different dose during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

How to take Ferrex-150?

Follow all instructions outlined on your label or prescribed by a healthcare professional. For best results, take Ferrex-150 with an empty stomach. Take the medicine after eating or with food if a stomach upset is experienced. Measuring liquid medicine is important. Use either the dosing device provided, or an equivalent dose-measuring tool (not a spoon), to accurately dose liquid medications. Please carefully review and follow all instructions that accompany your medication, if unsure. If necessary seek advice from either your healthcare provider or pharmacist. Medical tests will be required frequently. Ferrex-150 should not be used to treat iron deficiency without consulting your doctor. All people with anemia need to be under the care and supervision of a physician. Store at room temperature away from heat and moisture to maintain maximum results. Children should keep this medication out of reach to avoid accidental iron overdose and possible death.

What happens if I miss the dose?

If you are almost due for your next dose, skip the missed one. Never take two doses of the same medicine at once.

What happens if I overdose?

Call the Poison Help Line on 1-800-222-1222, or seek emergency medical attention if symptoms emerge. A Ferrex-150 overdose can be deadly, especially for children. Overdose symptoms include nausea, vomiting, stomach pains, tarry stool, a low pulse rate, a rapid heart rate, or seizures (convulsions).

What should be avoided?

Avoid:

  • Milk or other dairy products

  • High-fiber foods are those that contain whole grains, vegetables, or bran.

  • Coffee, tea;

  • Cola, chocolate;

  • Energy drinks or other sources of caffeine

Interaction with other drug

Ferrex-150 can be less effective if taken with certain medicines. Take this medicine 2 hours before you take another medicine or 2 hours after.

  • An antacid;

  • Anti-biotic

  • Medicine to treat parkinson’s disease

  • Thyroid medication.
